Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...(-NO3=WC%)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

Re: The 180gal Family Project

We went to one of the *greatest* stores in the world yesterday...LOWE'S!!! (I tell my husband that he knows he married the right woman when one of her favorite stores is Lowe's. ) We got all our plumbing, acrylic and eggcrate yesterday, with the exception of our bulkheads and I think we may be missing a few couplings, but we'll get the couplings later as we need them. But my fingers are fidgety and I'm ready to play!

Re: The 180gal Family Project

I never found bulkheads at Lowes. I don't think they care them. I get them at Tractor Supply, or you can check any place that sells large livestock (horse, cow, sheep, etc.) feed and supplies.

And of course you can also order from someplace online.

We weren't looking for bulkheads at Lowe's, we were planning on ordering sch 80's offline. But Tractor Supply? Whoda thunk it?

Seems odd, but a lot of things used in farming can be used in aquariums! The tub that I bought for my 'fuge... that 100g rubbermaid tub? It's a livestock feeding trough. I think it crosses over because reef safe is *probably livestock safe. The same for the bulkheads, I imagine.

Re: The 180gal Family Project

One of the tractor supplies near me has a 5,000g rubber maid, circular tub. Rubber maid makes tubs in the 25,000g range. Who would have thunk it?

hmmmmmm.......

Can you say Shark Tank???

They sell awesome pvc cement too. Work with that for a while and you feel all warm and tingly all over.

Re: The 180gal Family Project

Tommy (my hubby) has been a bad boy. I can't really blame him too much though. He got off work early yesterday so we could work on the sump. Instead, since he was in Mobile anyway, he decided to go to a fish store that we haven't had the opportunity to go to yet. He bought all our bulkheads minus 1 (the guy only had 1 and we needed 2 in that size). So, since it was still early, he decided to go to the LFS we frequent to get the other one but they used the bulkheads they had on their new CUC tanks. Unfortunately, he ran in to the only guy who works there who knows what the heck he's talking about. He left the store an hour and a half later and ended up getting home at 8:00. So much for working on the sump. If we don't get to work on it tonight, it'll have to wait until this weekend.
