Re: The 180gal Family Project

SAWEET!!! (lol) Thanks for watching guys! I can't remember what we were going to work on this weekend but I'm sure we can find something. We might try to plumb the sump this weekend then plumb the CL the week after next since that's when we'll be picking up the pump.

I do have a question though. We were going to attach some angled pvc to the strainers for our sump drains to so our water level could be a little higher. Can we spray paint those or will the spray paint leech chemicals into the water?

Re: The 180gal Family Project

I saw pics where people painted the pipe with black krylon spray paint. Apparently it doesn't leach anything nor does it come off.

Re: The 180gal Family Project

We started plumbing today and I have pictures!!!

I have a few nuggets of wisdom for those of you who are following my thread and have not plumbed a tank yet. Mind you, this is coming from people who are plumbing a tank for the first time...

1. Start early in the morning (the nuggets that follow will explain why).
2. You can pretty much toss the plumbing plans you spent weeks drawing up because once you get started and actually see how all the pipe will fit, your plans will change.
3. Plan on making at least 3 trips to Lowe's while you're plumbing (thus the reason for starting very early in the morning).
4. Buy at least 5 extra fittings of every kind of fitting you think you will need (see Number 2).
5. Purple runs are not necessarily proof of good plumbing. It IS possible to NEATLY glue pvc together without drip painting half of them purple.
6. If you have small children...INVEST IN A BABYSITTER FOR THE DAY!

Ok...pictures.
Tommy cutting pvc. The portaband cuts the pvc like "butta".

This is our drainage system. We have one of these on each side. The 90's angle any way we decide to move them and we painted the whole system with some blue Krylon to blend in with the background. I have some touchups to do, but this is the general idea.

The only part of the plumbing we did tonight was the drains from the tank to the sump. Here's the general idea. We have to glue the pipe going down into the sump. We didn't want to do that with Olivia in the living room with us because of the smell. Basically, we have one drain that goes into a bubble trap that's full of LR. The other drain partially empties into the fuge and is T'd off with a ball valve to control the flow to the fuge where the T goes to the skimmer section of the sump.

Oh...and Olivia helped.

Re: The 180gal Family Project

Looks like a nice clean job! Is that LR curing in the trash can in the first picture?
