brooks93 90 gal bow.

I am getting ready to setup a 90 gal bow as a reef tank and I know I will have questions.

Right now I am in a biocube 29 setup as a FOWLR and a frog spawn. 2 clowns and 2 damsils. The 90 will be my 3rd tank in the 8 months.

Started with a 16gal bow, then the bio 29 (honey the fish need more room), and now the 90 (honey the fish need more room)

ok nothing to show yet. I am still getting all the pieces and think about the rest. Since I am new to SW I will be asking a ton of questions so I guess this is a good place to start. If you see something wrong or I should add let me know. Spent 6 years in the army so I can take it and not get PO'd

so here is a list of goodies I have for it so far.

PFO Solaris
AquaC EV-120 Protein Skimmer with Mag-Drive 5 Pump
20 gal sump
mag drive 7 return
RO/DI systems
JBJ ato
2 x Hydor Koralia 3
Eheim Ebo-Jager Aquarium Heater - 250w

Planing about 130 or so lbs of live rock
around 4" to 5" live sand bed

Re: brooks93 90 gal bow.

Everything looks good. I would get a second Ebo Jager heater. a 200-250 watt one. Its good to have two. Incase one breaks when your not around the other will take right over. and if you have them both then its alot less work on one heater and youll probably extent the life of it. The sump will be great. Nice skimmer and good brand pumps. You got pretty much everything covered. well at least all the stuff youll need to get your feet wet and running. Cant wait to see it all come together.

Re: brooks93 90 gal bow.

You may want to consider a mag9 pump for the return for 10X return the tank volumn per hour. Also, have you looked into the ASM line of skimmers? You will like the Solaris. I have one on my 90 gallon.

Re: brooks93 90 gal bow.

good idea Dennis. I will order another one. I can't wait either.

I just don't want to screw it up. LOL

Dentoid, I looked at the ASM but it wouldn't fit in the sump by the foot print they had listed for the one I wanted. I was looking at MH but, didn't want the heat and a chiller so I went to a LFS and seen a solaris and feel in love with it. I thought about the 9 right after I ordered the 7. figured I screwed up on that one.

I guess I get to upgrade already.. LOL

thinking of getting a aquafuge also (think thats right) the one by cpr for feeding.

Re: brooks93 90 gal bow.

Looks like your going to have a serious addiction!
I was looking at the PFO Solaris, I have PC (see signiture)

Is the Solaris really better than MH like I've been hearing? Anyone have any experience with this?

I look forward to seeing photo's of your 90. Talk to ya later!

Thanks for serving by the way. I was Navy back durring the Storm days. It looks bad over there these days, nothing like Desert Storm...

Re: brooks93 90 gal bow.

oh yes I have a problem. I don't like to buy cheap to turn around and buy better later.

the LFS that I got the solaris from had it on a 120 with alot of soft and hard corals that looked great. I watched the tank for about 2 months to see what they did. I was more concerned with the heat and electric bill. Thats why I started looking at the solaris.

I was in 96 through 02. spent some time in the sand in 98.

that sounds familiar but i find its ok to have as long as you dont let it over grow and take over, it can become rather prolific..........hehehe

sounds like your going to have sweet tank. on the light though, what type corals are planning? that what i would use to determine the lighting you want.

Re: brooks93 90 gal bow.

right now I don't know which corals yet. I figured I would work around the lights. from what I have read I should be able to do most with the solaris

Re: brooks93 90 gal bow.

Some good reading there. I was always curious to see how it compared to MH. quick question though. anyone know how much a 48inch Solaris LED unit runs? just a ball park figure?

Re: brooks93 90 gal bow.

48" 20k version. Not the H4. I got mine for 1900 since it was the last one they had and he was getting the newer version.

the new I4 runs around 2500 to 2600 for a 48"

mine should of been around 2200 to 2300

The new model is the I4, which is the one that I have. It's great because you can change the Kelvin temperature. Take a look at this.

Re: brooks93 90 gal bow.

Mine is not the I4 I know that but, it can be fully adjusted like yours. I pick it up when I get back from the Netherlands on friday so I will have to look because I don't remember.

how do you like yours so far? how is your growth?
