Yes I have an idea in my head, but I need the correct measurements from you pros!!!!!!

I wouldn't just take a "measurment from the pros". I'd get a bulkhead IN hand and send them WITH the tank. Better safe than sorry

I totally understand, but if I go with Envision.... they are in Portland, OR. It makes it hard to do "face to face" when I'm in NC. With that being said, I will need to convey my thoughts and ideas to him via phone or email.... makes it a little tougher.

Re: My 120g Acrylic Tank Chronicle

The numbers Terry gave are good. 1-1/2" drain and 1" return. You will "T" at the top of the overflow to direct the return left and right.

I actually prefer going over the back with my return lines and just have drain lines drilled in the overflow so there's more for you to think about. I have my 1" drain line going to the sump and the 3/4" drain line going to the fuge. My 3/4"returns go over the back. I'ts not a problem unless you want to fit the tank with a cover to keep jumpers in the tank.

Now, if you do decide you like sleeping on the couch and make it an inwall tank then you want the lines to be inside the tank. I think it would be amazing to be able to see it from both sides too!

Maybe this helps.. maybe not. But there it is!

Re: My 120g Acrylic Tank Chronicle

1 1/4" drain and 1" return would be plenty for 750 gph. Just tell them that and I'm sure they will provide/sell you the bulkheads and install them.

This question is more for me but it will probably be of interest to you too. Should he have the holes drilled and bulkheads installed to add in a CL later if he decides he really wants/needs it? Just cap off the bulkheads at this time type of thing...

It's so much easier to have a tank drilled and bulkheads installed when there isn't WATER in it.

Re: My 120g Acrylic Tank Chronicle

I would say that if you're even entertaining the idea of seriously adding a CL later go ahead and do the drilling now.

Yes, do it now and plug them.

Re: My 120g Acrylic Tank Chronicle

Thanks for the help everyone.

Now if I tee the 1" return line inside the overflow will the bulkheads need to be 1" as well for the linlocks or do they need to be reduced down??? I don't know what size the linlock fittings are.

Re: My 120g Acrylic Tank Chronicle

Where are you having your Over Flow placed?

In my 90 it's located just off-center to the left and I am NOT happy with it. I wish it were a left hand CORNER over flow.

I have my return (1") T'd off at the top of the return. Actually it's a Locline "Y" fitting.

Re: My 120g Acrylic Tank Chronicle

Well Allen, I was planning on making my overflow in the center. My thoughts were that I could have 2 returns built into the overflow with locline fittings placed on each side about halfway up. So then I can actually build the LR around them so you wouldn't even see them, and the return flow would actually be shooting out of the small spaces I would make in the LR. I think it would look slick as well as keep the detritus off some of the LR. What do you guys think?

Re: My 120g Acrylic Tank Chronicle

Thanks Terry.... So that means that my 1" return lines will need to be reduced to 3/4 after I tee them. So thats telling me that I will need to tell the tank builder to make 3/4" holes where I want my returns to be placed.

Re: My 120g Acrylic Tank Chronicle

I like the idea but I still say I'm not pleased with my OF taking up valuable real estate right where I'm looking all the time. This is my first "Real" tank and my thoughts may change but after that last couple of weeks working on the plumbing and rock work I'm not pleases with a centrally located OF.

Re: My 120g Acrylic Tank Chronicle

Well I thought about a corner overflow and the reason I don't want to go that route is because I am building an acrylic tank. If I put the overflow in the corner then it would force me to build up the LR on the sides to conceal everything. Obviously doing so greatly increases the risk of scratching the acrylic. So for me, the best option is to stay in the middle.

Re: My 120g Acrylic Tank Chronicle

The return lines usually don't need to have holes drilled for them at the top. The "T" is set just at the top of the overflow and the left and right pipes just "rest" on top of the overflow edge.
