Re: My 120g Acrylic Tank Chronicle

Nope. Well you will want two inputs out of the tank and into the pump. CL's have some serious pull and can be a nightmare on anemones. my next CL will have the Oceans Motions on it.

Well lets say I plan to do the coast to coast overflow, and I also wanted to run a closed loop system... Given my size tank, where should the 2 inputs be located? How many returns should there be and where should they be placed?

Re: My 120g Acrylic Tank Chronicle

If you are going acrylic, I would do just like Nikki did on her's. Here is a picture. Her tank is like mine but i have glass. PM me if you want to see her chronicle. It is on another forum. I am sure she won't mind me posting a picture of her rear tank

Re: My 120g Acrylic Tank Chronicle

there are many ways to do a closed loop... in general you are looking to provide flow into all areas of the tank while trying to keep things as clean and concealed as possible. The loop could be on the back, bottom, sides or a combination of these.

Well, if the back, and the bottom is the only area that I can afford to have exposed plumbing, how can I run a loop with a coast to coast?

Re: My 120g Acrylic Tank Chronicle

they are independant of each other . a closed loop is called that way because water flows in and out in a loop to and from a pump. the overflows dump into a sump where your skimmer is and back to the tank.

Re: My 120g Acrylic Tank Chronicle

That tank i just posted has a coast to coast on the inside. My next tank is going to have the CL on the bottom only. I want all 4 walls to be free of obstacles. On a smaller tank like a 120 i think the back is the best place. Here is a shot of the inside of Nikki's tank. Can you say Lock Line! She ended up shortening them down.

Re: My 120g Acrylic Tank Chronicle

then again...you could just get a pair of vortechs and be done with it...plus you will be able to do a nice wave function and never have the fear of a bulkhead leaking.

I would expect nothing less from an Elos owner!

Re: My 120g Acrylic Tank Chronicle

You guys are too much! I am assuming that Vortecs are powerheads, and can be controlled remotely to simulate the wave effect?? This way obviously seems like an easier way when space is limited.

Re: My 120g Acrylic Tank Chronicle

The vortec's are nice. If i had an expensive glass tank there would be no way i could drill it. an Elos is made for 4 way viewing. It is art.
