Re: My 120g Acrylic Tank Chronicle

I would do an out side coast to coast. Glad you are getting closer to deciding what you want Chris. If you need any info let me know.
I would also recomend a euro brace on a tank that size.

Re: My 120g Acrylic Tank Chronicle

They would cut the teeth into the back of the tank all the way across from left to right. On the back of the tank is a box that catches the water and stand pipes installed in this box. Then you plumb from the bottom of the box into the bulkheads to the sump.

Re: My 120g Acrylic Tank Chronicle

Nice!!! Very slick! So basically the entire overflow is external allowing more internal space, right?

Yes, I second the external overflow box....provided you have the space to keep your tank a few inches away from the wall to accomodate for it.

How many inches wide does this overflow need to be?

3 1/2" to 4". Enough room to fit the stand pipes.

Re: My 120g Acrylic Tank Chronicle

I love the idea of an external coast to coast overflow box. I think that would provide the cleanest looking tank possible.

Re: My 120g Acrylic Tank Chronicle

Bulk heads in the tank to provide a supply of water to a pump and then multiple bulkheads to provide the return. You can provide circulation to the tank without any powerheads inside the tank.

It takes a pretty good sized pump though. Like a Sequence Hammerhead.

Going that route obviously seems like a cleaner look. Is it more / less effective than running internal power heads? Are there any con's to running a closed loop sytem?
