| Scopas Tang | Re: My 120g Acrylic Tank Chronicle Well Terry, the more I scrutinize my original design, the more I feel That I'm crunching way too much plumbing in such a small place... I taped off my floor in the same size as the tank. I also made full size cut-outs of the holes I plan to have drilled. After many hours of placing them around, the more I have my mind set on a "coast to coast". I taped 5" off of the whole back to represent the "coast to coast". After looking at it, the more I realized that its not really taking up as much room as I thought. I will try to get a drawing posted today for you guys to check out. |

| Watch this Ma! | Re: My 120g Acrylic Tank Chronicle And I'm not trying to talk you out of a coast to coast either. ![]() I DO think you'd have plenty of flow though. I STILL say to use that 5" behind the tank. ![]() (just kidding) ![]()

| Scopas Tang | Re: My 120g Acrylic Tank Chronicle Alright ladies and gentlemen... I think we got it! It's going to be a "coast to coast". Check out what I've come up with. Please let me know you see any major changes. ![]() I'm not sure if you'll be able to read that without a magnifying glass!!! Let me know if you need me to translate. |

| Scopas Tang | Re: My 120g Acrylic Tank Chronicle Well, I just emailed my drawings over to James at Envision. I have already "caught" a couple of areas that I want to tweak, but I'll hear back from him tomorrow with his take on the drawings. If he doesn't see any structural issues, we will start the build. So, lets start talking about pumps.... I need one for the Closed Loop and one for the sump. I have been told that Sequence are the ones to go with. If so, which models, and if not, what other options do I have? |

| Watch this Ma! | Re: My 120g Acrylic Tank Chronicle I can't read the drawing so what is the size of the drain pipe(s) to the sump? Are you planning on an IN sump pump or an external one? How many gallons will the sump be? For the closed loop, I think it's simply a matter of figuring out how many GPH flow you want in your tank and buy a pump that does that.

| Scopas Tang | Re: My 120g Acrylic Tank Chronicle Well Terry, the drain pipe is 1.5". As far as an internal / external sump pump, I'm not sure, I'm open for options. What are the pros / cons of each? The sump will be roughly 38 gallons. As far as turnover rate for the closed loop.... I plan to keep SPS. What would be a good starting point? |

| Angel Girl's Daddy ![]() | Re: My 120g Acrylic Tank Chronicle I have a Dolphin amp master 3000 on my closed loop. I like it a lot for the 120. I also like the darts for this size tank. You would do good with either.

| Watch this Ma! | Re: My 120g Acrylic Tank Chronicle 1.5" for the drain to the sump is capable of carrying 1,800 gph. Thats probably a bit much flow for a sump. The water won't dwell very long for the skimmer to do it's thing. A 1.25" drain will provide 1,200 gph which is probably a better number for flow through the sump. Ok, there is 10x turnover rate so far. You should probably have around 30x turnover rate for the tank overall. So you only need another 2,400 gph. The Sequence Snapper might be a little bit too small so Frankie's suggestion of the Dart should get you plenty of flow. Or any pump the size of the Dart of course.

| Scopas Tang | Re: My 120g Acrylic Tank Chronicle Well if thats the case, then 1200gph is slightly too much as well. If you figure 150 in the tank, and another 40 in the sump... That makes 190. 1200gph works out to be 6.5 times per hour... Do you think thats pushing it? |

| Watch this Ma! | Re: My 120g Acrylic Tank Chronicle That sounds pretty good to me. What kind of skimmer are you looking at? That might help to determine the flow rate through the sump too.

| The CodFather ~ | Re: My 120g Acrylic Tank Chronicle look into the ehiem pumps for the return...for the closed loop go to the OM website and get a sequence dart with the plumbing already done for you

| Watch this Ma! | Re: My 120g Acrylic Tank Chronicle Which one? I have a Euro Reef RS-250 and I love it. I DO think that an ASM G-4 probably would have been every bit as good for less money. I can only speak towards the Euro though. I think, and everyone PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong, that the bigger the skimmer then the faster the flow, not only can be, but should be through the sump. Especially if it's an inline skimmer. This is the idea for having a separate container for the Fuge so you can control the flow individually.
