| Watch this Ma! | Re: My 120g Acrylic Tank Chronicle My skimmer box is 15 1/2" long and I have absolutely zero scum on the top. So somewhere in that range would be the right size. My old one was 10" and I had a layer of scum on top of the water that I couldn't get rid of.

| Watch this Ma! | Re: My 120g Acrylic Tank Chronicle Oops, you said width and I gave length. Or are we talking about the same thing? If you are going to have a 1 1/2" pipe in the box as a drain and a 1" coming up in the box as a return, and you're using Schedule 40, and you have fittings on each of the pipes, I'm going to guess that your box will need to be 5" from front to back and the length should be a minimum of 14" or 15".

| Scopas Tang | Re: My 120g Acrylic Tank Chronicle Thats a great site Robert, but it doesn't tell me what the actual sizes are for specific applications. For my own knowledge, what is the rule of thumb concerning sump specs? How many gallons in the sump vs. gallons in the tank? |

| The CodFather ~ | Re: My 120g Acrylic Tank Chronicle the simple answer would be...try to get the largest sump you can fit into your stand and still allow room for whatever else you may want to put down there.

| The CodFather ~ | Re: My 120g Acrylic Tank Chronicle keep in mind that it has to catch the excess water volume from the tank in case of a power/syphone failure

| Scopas Tang | Re: My 120g Acrylic Tank Chronicle Thats exactly what I'm trying to figure out..LOL. O.K. lets go about it this way. Whats the minimum sump requirements? Then if I at least know this then I can go up from there. As you know, space is a big issue, but at the same time, I need it done right. |

| The CodFather ~ | Re: My 120g Acrylic Tank Chronicle minimum....hmmm... 48x30x3/231= it would have to hold at least 18 gal...then im sure you will want a fuge...then you need space for the pump...then you need...hey why dont you call Jeff at lifereef and tell him ''hey I need a sump for a 150gal reef, what ya got?'' ![]()

| Watch this Ma! | Re: My 120g Acrylic Tank Chronicle And give him the measurements of the space you have available... Are you SURE you don't want to use the 5" behind the tank behind the dry wall? ![]()
