I just thought of something... Send an Email to DFS and describe to them what is going on. I'd be interested in their response.
Well I tried again today. I offered very small portions of flake, then an hour later scallop, and then a little later a mix of fresh seafood I ground up in the processor. Only the goby actively swam out and started grabbing food (and this is after another night in the sump--grrrr). The small ocellaris ate a few bites as they passed him, but made no active efforts to go after it.

The large occellaris also did not actively chase any food. However, I did see him mouth and spit out a few things if the food went by him.

Otherwise the seem to be acting like normal clowns. They are always together. Sometimes I do wonder if the current is stronger than what they are used to though.

As for the goby, I fashioned a "cover" using eggcrate to go over the top of the overflow. Hopefully this will help. I am amazed that he finds his way up and down the durso so readily. So far neither of his two trips seem to have injured him, but if I can't find a way to make him stop I'd think its only a matter of time.

Re: Tufa's tank!!!

Robert, can you put some gutter guard to cover the overflow or where the goby is gaining entrance to the overflow? Gutter guard is flexible and can bend. It can be kept in place with plastic ties.

Re: Tufa's tank!!!

I made this today. Gonna see how it works. If it does the trick I'll trim the edges a little more.

Re: Tufa's tank!!!

Good job! That should keep him in the tank. Although, Scott had a bluespot jawfish that must have had exceptional aim, and jumped out by going through the holes.

Re: Tufa's tank!!!

Terry is right. My tank top was covered with a piece of egg crate and my first blue spotted jawfish jumped through it. Fortunately I was there to get her back in the tank without any damage. See how it does, you'll know soon enough if it's effective or not.

Your watchman is new and getting settled. Once settled in, he should stay grounded. My Yellow Watchman never leaves the bottom. Consider a pistol shrimp host if he keeps wandering.

I'd like a pistol, but right now I really don't have my shrimp compatibility down yet. Will pistols bother corals? Are all wrasses shrimp-killers?

Re: Tufa's tank!!!

Well, he did it again. I'm at a loss. I have to assume he is going lengthwise through the slotted overflow, and not over the top. He only does it at night too.

Re: Tufa's tank!!!

These fish really hide at night. He must have figured out how to get in there and he thinks it's his hiding spot.

Re: Tufa's tank!!!

I've used nylon window screening with no corrosion or negative effects. May limit the intensity of lighting.

Re: Tufa's tank!!!

He would just use it around the overflow box teeth, right? So it wouldn't affect the light. It would require regular maintenance though so it doesn't get clogged and affect the flow. Slowing the flow FROM the tank TO the sump is a REALLY bad thing.

Re: Tufa's tank!!!

Yes, weekly cleaning at a minumum would be in order, if the flow wasn't restricted by the screen itself.

Re: Tufa's tank!!!

I may look into the screen. Thought of that earlier myself. I think they make some fiberglass-type screen that I used as a plenum back in the day.

On the plus side, I'm pumping up the clean up crew tomorrow and getting two blood shrimp. And, I'm told my Solaris ships next week!! Woo-hoo!

Now if my big clown would only eat

Re: Tufa's tank!!!

i'm sure you can find screens with wider hole diameter than window screen but small enough to keep fish from getting through.
