| Watch this Ma! | Re: Tufa's tank!!! That sucks. I have three white ones that blink at me occasionally. I need to send PFO an email and ask what I need to do to fix it.

| Neon dottyback | Re: Tufa's tank!!! Terry: Mine were blinking too. I can tell you what to do. Slide off the cover. In front of the led banks, where they plug into the main board, you will see a little black jumper with a bit of white stuff on the top. Pull the jumper out for that bank (note that the jumpers don't line straight up with its respective led bank). That stopped the blinking, but unfortunately one of the LEDs on that bank was still out. I really love the Solaris, but this kinda stuff is starting to make me regret this purchase. Its just too new and too expensive to have to deal with this. I'm also having a hard time getting light coverage on the entire tank. It needs to be a little wider. |

| Watch this Ma! | Re: Tufa's tank!!! Scott and Robert, I'm assuming that PFO will replace a string even if one LED is burnt out, right? I'll take a look at that tomorrow, Robert. I'm busy running pvc tonight. I'm hoping to get water flowing through the sump tomorrow.

| Neon dottyback | Re: Tufa's tank!!! New additions today! Purple tang, royal gramma, and canary damsel. Also a toadstool coral, 10 more ceriths and a fighting conch. All came from LiveAquaria. The tang looks beautiful, but is still very skiddish. The damsel is very pretty and eating already. The gramma looked very iffy out of the bag, and has hidden. All ceriths are well, but the conch hasn't moved - so verdict still out on him. The bad news is my solaris woes continue, and I'm at the point now that as much as I love it, there are too many bugs. Here is a summary: 1)told 3 times when I would have it, was late every time 2)received unit with faulty display and one LED out 3)Replaced LED, only to find another went out 4)Another LED strip started flashing, was told to pull out a jumper 4)One of the ballasts stopped working. They were supposed to overnight and didn't. 5)Received new ballast, only to find two more leds (on one strip) were out As you can see, this has been a struggle for me. This light is absolutely fantastic when it is working correctly, but I am very dissapointed with the quality control. I'd urge anyone considering a recent purchase to wait a generation or two. | Neon dottyback | Re: Tufa's tank!!! Sorry Terry, I've been biting my tongue a bit on this one as I really don't want to hurt Solaris sales, and the people at PFO for the most part have been very easy to work with. Still, this is how its been. Right now I'm waiting for yet another LED strip, which means one more time off the tank and one more opportunity for me to break it. I'm not even confident that when I take it down to fix this strip I won't find another one out. I'm gonna give it a few more weeks, and then I'm gonna talk about a return. I emailed Tom at Solaris yesterday about my situation, and what my options were, and so far he has failed to return it. And its about time someone came up with a solution to this bunny problem! Great job ![]() |

| Star Polyps | Re: Tufa's tank!!! I wonder if this was a problem with a certin batch of Solaris. Or maybe a batch of LED's. Not trying to make excuses for them as none of this should have happened in the first place but mines been working great for over a month now.

Usually you want to wait 6 to 8 weeks between adding fish so the denitrfying bacteria have a chance to multiply and provide the required biofiltration. You may want to test for an ammonia spike and do water changes as necessary.

| Neon dottyback | Re: Tufa's tank!!! The gramma and damsel are very small, and the purple tang is on the small side as well. I don't consider that caution to be pushy at all, but I'm confident the LR and sand bed can handle it. I do water tests every 3 days, but I'll step that up even more to be sure. Tonight all the new fish ate great, which always is a great relief. |

| Neon dottyback | Re: Tufa's tank!!! OK, FTS is not on acronyms page, lol. I know I should know this one too, lol. Thanks Jo. After 24 hours my ammonia and nitrite are 0. Nitrate with the salifert test is such a bugger to read. The test says to read it from the top down instead of from the side. Its pink from the side but clear from the top, so I'm gonna guess 1 ppm. PH 8.1-8.2. I was worried about the gramma, but everyone happily survived the night and looks real good. I am so happy with the Purple Tang specimen. Damn thing is so expensive so its nice to get such a nice one online. Everyone is still eating. Now if I can just figure out the dumb behavior of my clowns. Why these things insist on hanging vertically against a corner is beyond me. There is absolutely no agression in my tank, and both clowns eat well. They have plenty of places to host too. I'm thinking because they are tank-bred they are confused as to what to host in and this is some weirdo brain rewiring on how to host. Otherwise they act and appear perfectly healthy. |
