Re: Julie's (BigAl's Gal) 6g NanoCube

Yes the rock was drilled and pegged. We used Nylon bolts from a local hardware store and I cut the heads off. Then screwed them into the holes and added some small dabs of "Marine Epoxy" in some key areas. Also while we were doing this I also used some LARGE gobs of Super Glue Gel to give a quick "Tack" to help hold things as we went along. It's made in three distinct pieces so it can be taken out easily if needed. The rock structure is VERY porous and has some very cool shapes on it. Once the water clears I'll try to get some close up pics showing all the different pieces of rock and the "caves & pathways she created. We went to an "Auqa-Scaping" session at our local Reef club this week and she got some great ideas and was able to apply them. I have to say it turned our really cool. Once the water settles down and stuff I'll take some more detailed pics.

Thanks for reading

Live Rock Rubble will do the SAME thing as Bio-Balls and is NOT a suitable replacement for BIO-BALLS in a Reef System! It's ALL gotta go!!

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...currentNO3-((%WC*.01)currentNO3)=finalNO3 (thanks Luukosian)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

the Laptop was for "guidance". She totally built her "Rock-Scape" before hand and we took pictures of it. Then I pulled them up on the laptop (took them in incremental steps) so she could see how she did it before.

oneBall She said WHY would she post and HOW would she because "Allen is always HOGGING the laptop!" that's not true.. she can use the PC

That's cool Al...

I've got a friend that did that on a 210 gallon reef and was able to make some amazing arches and ledges.

I'm considering doing that if I start a new reef someday.

Re: Julie's (BigAl's Gal) 6g NanoCube

Great rock work!
It will look awesome covered in shrooms and zoas.
Love the Reef ball.

But why not stock that 6g like the pic on the box?
4 clowns and a giant carpet anemone.
What type of message does that send the beginning reefer!

Looks like she is off to a great start. I love the aquascape.
The picture on that box really disturbs me. No wonder people get in so much trouble starting out. Glad you are there to help her do it right.

Re: Julie's (BigAl's Gal) 6g NanoCube

Thanks everyone. She is SO proud of her tank.

I have to agree about the box cover. It's just un-cool to paint such a terrible impression on the new SW tank owner. But she's smarter than that and already said. " I only want a few pretty corals in there...." That's my girl

Re: Julie's (BigAl's Gal) 6g NanoCube

So lets see. Julie gets the 5 gallon tank and you get the what? JK glad to see that you are both involved.

Lynn, I agree. I hate that they show pictures of tanks with critters that they never could support. It sends the wrong message, that's for sure.
