Cyano is your friend. It is the ultimate indicator and exporter of phosphates and nitrates (when you remove it) in your system. Eliminate the nitrates and phosphates and no more cyano!

Sometimes the cyano uses all the phosphates up to the point that tests kits come up with zero. It's a stalemate.

Looking good man! As was said before, the 0 tests only indicate that the algae is using the nitrate and phosphate as fast as it is produced, not that there is no source of them in your tank. I had the same issue with hair algae about a year ago.

On a good note everything is alive. The in-tank refugium i made out of plastic mesh canvas is holding up nicely although it is an eyesore. i may have to rebuild it in a differnt shape....
the good-
its here

the bad-
so far im regreting the skimmer upgrade... I cant get the skimmer water level to the bottom of the collection like it says in the instructions.... i pretty much have to submerse the entire skimmer to get it to the indicated level in the manual...

the worse-
I had to do some DYI to fit into the chamber... which i knew i would have to... The case came with a magnet attached to the skimmer body i had to cut it off to make it fit. But now im afraid i wont be able to get it working properly like the other nc28's and now i wont be able to return it.

Be patient with the skimmer. They can take as long as two weeks to break in before they start functioning correctly.
