Re: Tori's First Marine Expedition!! nano style!

haha yep, i made a run to the LFS for RO/DI water and came back with a koralina nano powerhead (haven't set it up yet) and a new shrimp. and i was drooling over those zoas again...
Jason (from LFS) also showed me some cool feather dusters and Koko worms (kinda like christmastree worms) that are really cool.
it won't be long before there is some new polyp life in my tank!

and, speaking of pictures! (i'm so good at segueing!) i took some of my new setup (and my new peppermint shrimp!) that will be up momentarily!
Awesome! Yea I saw the yaks on your pic. I used to guide some whitewater on the Green, Arkansas and a few other rivers...and my personal claim to fame was kayaking the east coast of Scotland from Aberdeen to St. Andrews...alas....another life.

Keep the pics coming!

BTW, i'm having a slight pep. shrimp problem with pepperoncini. he might be facing banishment, but for now he's just on probation.

Re: Tori's First Marine Expedition!! nano style!

well, pepperoncini is banished, awaiting hanging, and my mushrooms are trying to recover from the brutality.
i'll get some pics up of the damage. and whatever torture method we find fitting for a mushroom eater!

yeah, well, my dad is pretty niffty!

pepperoncini is banished and is now known as "the shrimp of which we do not speak". Unfortunately when i went to the LFS they told me that they didn't do returns/exchanges/refunds for marine livestock, but that they'd take it back. so i gave it to them, but i basically just paid $9 to get my mushrooms torn up! great!

nitrates still aren't 0 after removing sponge, adding more flow, and removing and scrubbing LRR. i'm doing a waterchange tonight.

btw, my shrooms will recover, right? is there any way to help the process along?

Great little Nano! Sounds like your having a blast! Its a very adicting hobby isn't it? Your dad did a great job organizing your power! Looks great!

Where did you get the live rock? That looks nice as well, pretty cool you got all those shooms as HH'ers. Great deal!

Enjoy the hobby! The folks here are great as you know.

thanks! i am having a blast with it! it's amazing how long i can stare at live rock! (okay, not the rocks, the tiny pods and worms in it!)

the rocks i just got from my LFS. i don't know what kind it is, it was just labeled "cured" and "premium cured" lol

Re: Tori's First Marine Expedition!! nano style!

well, my mushrooms are looking better today. my baby red one looks like its fully expanded, but it's now the shape of an "infinity" symbol - the little sideways 8. and the big one is unfolding more every day, but is still nervous (and rightfully so!) about being eaten alive. poor guys.

my nitrates are still hanging around 20ppm. hmmph.

Re: Tori's First Marine Expedition!! nano style!

Sad news about the shrooms...
You need the fire and ice zoos to help get over that!

So... let's look at nitrates...
you have a BioCube 8
the tank cycled and has a bunch of live rock and live sand
(two small mushroom hitchhikers)
plus a clean up crew

you do water changes every week to 10 days

in the back compartments you have:

#1 (input) live rock rubble (took out the charcoal filter pack)
#2 live rock rubble in the bottom (took out bioballs) with the drip tray still in place and filter floss on the drip tray
#3 pump and heater (removed filter sponge)

Stock pump
added nano power head for more water movement

I don't get it. Nitrates should be lower.

Re: Tori's First Marine Expedition!! nano style!

i know. especially after i scrubbed my LRR and vaccumed my substrate.
anyone know what could be the nitrate trap? i mean, levels are safe right now, but i'd like them to be 0 before i put a big bioload like a fish in there.

hehe. fire and ice zoos would help!
