Re: Tori's First Marine Expedition!! nano style!

Looking Awesome Tori !!! - I have the same rainbow colored algae in my sand from time to time - I think it's just part of the maturing process -

I just wipe it clean before a water change and its usually good for a week or so - from everything I ave read it seems that in the first few months these algaes are normal .

Re: Tori's First Marine Expedition!! nano style!

alright, so i took advantage of my LFS's coral sale and picked up a finger? leather frag for $6 and a two mouthed ric for about $20. they've got semi-permanent resting spots at the moment, but i think i'm moving the ric and i'm not sure about the leather...we'll see. (btw, there's a ? after finger because i'm not exactly sure what variety of leather it is...)

here they are!!

my leather still on the sand, opening up somewhat. he was pouty and droopy for a couple days, but sprang back recently and i have yet to get a good picture of him....

and the new star of the aquarium...

That ric is awesome! Especially for that price! Great find!

I'm not sure what the proper name of the leather is though.

Great finds. Great pics of the ric. I'm glad you entered it in the contest.
Everything looks great. I have always heard that coral called a kenya tree but I could well be wrong on that. Pretty piece regardless.

Re: Tori's First Marine Expedition!! nano style!

okay, FTS. now be honest, should my leather be moved? i think it sticks out kinda funny up there...but i'm not sure where to but him. he sure is happy up there... (also, please excuse the green haze...it's time for a scraping...)
and i'm pretty sure the ric is getting moved down a little, that little ledge isn't really working for me...

and a better picture of my leather

They look happy, it would be a personal choce to move them. I believe Lynn was right and that's a Kenya Tree.

Re: Tori's First Marine Expedition!! nano style!

Very nice. If the leather has not attached itself I would move it down a bit. It looks good there but I would be afraid of it growing out of the tank pretty quickly.

Re: Tori's First Marine Expedition!! nano style!

grow out of the tank? you mean height wise? it would have to double in size to do that! it just looks alot closer to the surface in the pictures.
do kenya trees really get that tall?

i'll play around with some different placements and see what happens.

Re: Tori's First Marine Expedition!! nano style!

Leather corals grow pretty quickly. It really wouldn't take too long for it to be at the top of the water.

I have one that grew about 4" in about 4 months.
