Re: My slow 135g build

thanks Rob.

i'm looking for to the new set up Tru!

well after testing the QT again and all the parameters read zero except the trates which were 10-20, i went to the LFS and purchased two more fish. an O. clown and a Scopas Tang, i also got a ball of chaeto and some brine shrimp. pics coming tonight or tomorrow, they're still acclimating right now (by that i mean the fish).

Re: My slow 135g build

well i think i will be taking the tang back to the lfs, its acting really strange. zipping from one side of the tank to the other, lying on its side at times. i wasnt going to buy him because when the guy took out the piece of LR to catch him there was another one under the rock dead. he says it got trapped more than likely, but now i'm thinking theres more to it. this is what happens when i dont make a stocking list so...

Stocking list:

Have:
lawnmower blenny
(3) green chromis
Ocellaris clown

Want:
royal gramma
hippo tang

any suggestions would help.

Re: My slow 135g build

is it rubbing its side along the substrate thats usually a sign of parasites i would take him back especially if there was already another dead fish in the tank

Re: My slow 135g build

the tang didnt rub anything he would just lay on its side. we just got back from the lfs. after talking with the guy who sold it to me he took the fish back and i just paid the difference between that and the hippo. Terry they're entire system is connected so it wouldnt have mattered but i know what you, better safe than sorry.

the people at lfs (customers & staff) were all suprised maybe even insulted when i told them the tang was in a QT, and i explained to them this is why i QT every fish.

Re: My slow 135g build

well Jack told me that my skimmer was a lost cause and as usual he was right. all i'm getting is light green water, granted there isnt much in the system but still. so now i have my eyes on the ASM-G3, ive seen good reviews and its not too expensive. i just have to make sure it will fit in my skimmer section of the sump.

i'm removing that acrylic 13g sump because the baffles in it are keeping the water stagnant, not to mention its more tall than wide so it limits its use. i have a drilled 10g glass tank that i will be using instead. but i'm not sure which way to go with the set up. as of now the middle section of my sump holds 20-30lbs of LR rubble and a small ball of chaeto. should i put all the rubble in the 10g since the water will be slower and use it as a pod farm or put the chaeto in there with a ph?

You could probably do both. Bummer about the skimmer. I'm sending you a PM.

Re: My slow 135g build

i got the 10g fuge in place after building a new stand. i have it dry plumbed right now and i'm making water so i can fill it up soon. i had to go to HD to get more parts to run the drain line so hopefully it will be finished tomorrow.

i'm wondering why everyone else's new tank is growing HA except mine and i dont want to add a CUC until i see the first signs of algea. is it because i dont have my lights set up yet?

That's my guess. I've been running my lights and wow, I've got algae out the ying-yang! Hopefully all the fish and snails I put in the tank will take care of it.

More rubble if you've got it or can get it. It's hard to have too much LR settin' aboot don't ya know! (that sounds better if said with an Irish accent )

Re: My slow 135g build

I'm sorry to hear about your fish. Better safe than sorry.

As far as your stock list goes, we had 4 green chromis in our 55 gallon. I loved to watch how they schooled. They never got agressive with any other fish, just each other. But, then again, the only other fish we had were a yellow tang and a coral beauty who were both pretty agressive themselves.

The chaeto will certainly help with your trates.

I can't wait to see pics of the new guys!
