Re: My slow 135g build

Just caught up. My you have been busy. Everything looks great.
Going back a few pages you were talking about the RO waste water and being afraid the dogs would get it. There is no reason to worry about that. The water is perfectly good for normal use. I know someone who uses it as an automatic fill device for the dog bowls. People use it for laundry and yard watering. I think using it to fill the pond or pool is a great idea.

She's right. It's only "Waste" when it's compared to the final product of the filtration. Other than that it's just water.

Re: My slow 135g build

thanks for stopping by everybody. i started the pumps and realized the drain cant keep up with the return , didnt think i would have to worry about that. so tomorrow i'll cut the drain below the bulkhead and enlarge it to 2" hopefully this will help. right now it goes from the bulkhead to a 1 1/2" T one side drops to 3/4" for the fuge the other side is 1 1/2" to the skimmer section of the sump. i'm not sure if the T is the problem so i'm thinking of moving the fuge closer to the skimmer section of the sump (opposite side of the stand) to the T will be further away from drains bulkheads.

oh, the ball valve for the return of the Mag 9 is closed 3/4" just to give you an idea of how bad the drain flow is

Re: My slow 135g build

Ok, looking at this pic, I believe it's an issue with your stand pipe. Maybe you need a bigger hole for the air? What size pipe did you use for the stand pipe and how big of a pipe did you use for the intake of the water?

Could you just remove the pipe for now, just to prove that that is where the problem is?

Re: My slow 135g build

Thanks Terry. i'll try removing the T section of the durso pipe and see if thats the problem. the durso is 1 1/2" and the return pipe is 1 1/4". there are five 1/4" holes in the durso cap, even when i take it off completely the drain still cant keep up with the return. i just cant understand it

Re: My slow 135g build

You might need to lower the pipe down into the overflow box more. That would allow it to build up some pressure to force the water down through the pipe.

Re: My slow 135g build

More rock wiil defuse the flow and relieve the sand shifting, also will add biodenitrification capacity.

Re: My slow 135g build

Varga, thanks for keeping up.

Terry, wouldnt that just lower the water level in the box?

Jack, you've got a PM, thanks.

Craig, i dont think i'm putting much more rock in the DT, probably just in the overflow corner. the center section of the sump will be full of LR though. i dont think i'll have to worry about the shifting with the eggcrates

Re: My slow 135g build

i forgot i had to cut the drain when i resiliconed and added another 45* fitting, so that maybe the problem. i thought it was a good idea because it left more room for the skimmer but i may be changing it again.

Re: My slow 135g build

Wow, I finally took the time to look through your build today. Great setup and I'm glad to see the dogs and kitty were helping you out the whole time!

What is the most restrictive Interior Diameter of your drain? What is the ID of the fitting where it goes through the bulkhead?

Re: My slow 135g build

Hey, how's it going Mark, thanks for checking out my thread. i would say the bulkhead area is probably the smallest and its around 1 1/4".
