Re: My slow 135g build

Seachem, which marinedepot sells, has a magnesium test. I have never tested for mg but I probably should, seems like only the higher end companys make them though.

I use api for ammonia, calcium and phosphates. The phosphates one is super hard to read!! I wouldnt recomend it. The other two work great for me but the calcium one readis in increments of 20ppm. So I am somewhere between 420 and 440 when I test. Thought I would shed some light on that.

I use seachem for nitirite and nitrate, ph, alk. I like it but it uses a color chart that slides through a piece of paper and you are supposed to match that to the color of the water so its kind of guess work. Not sure if salifert does the same thing or not. If it does then I dont se how the extra $$$ would be worth it.

I always like to add that I like to buy "locally", within CA for me. Otherwise shipping jut takes too long. Thats why I use mariendepot and not Dr F. Maybe you should look for someone in FL. Seems to be a super popular hobby over there on the east coast.

Re: My slow 135g build

Hey Joe, I'm trying the API "MasterReef "test kits this round. Got them at Petsmart. Maybe not the best but the price was reasonable. They don't have the mag test though. How is the ro/di hookup goin?

Re: My slow 135g build

I didnt even realize we were supposed to test for mg until about a week or two ago when someone on here mentioned it to me. You would think more brands would make this test available since it seems to be popular but perhaps it has to do with the ease of manufacturing it?

JoJo: I just got an neptune aqua controller jr last night and its awsome. I have to say that it was worth the investment. I got it on ebay brand new from a guy in San Francisco so it didnt take that long to get to me. I havent even posted it in my thread yet! Just wanted to let you know since you are making an aquarium shopping list.

Re: My slow 135g build

CMG, i'll add it to my shopping list, not sure how far up on the list it will be but i'll add it.

Varga, i'll repost the pics of the water test, but its going well stil dry.

Hey Jack, youe opinion on how far the RO unit can be from the water source & container. but i think it sould matter, when i tie into the bathroom plumbing i'm going to run 10-15ft of 1/4 plastic line from there to the unit which will be on the other side of the room. the pressure should remain the same.

Re: My slow 135g build

I would run it from there just incase you have an issue you can get to the source fast. Other than that I have run the line along way with no issues

Re: My slow 135g build

yea, i would only have to drill a hole in the drywall for a 1/4" line instead of a 1" pipe. also i would put a shut off valve once the line comes through the wall just incase something was to happen.

now its just finding the right adapter/fitting to make it work. probably put a T on the bath plumbing line & attach the faucet adapter to it.
