Re: Lorraine's 125 (et. al) - The 2nd Year

Great way to avoid housework.
Maybe I should get a water change started instead of finishing the living room.

Definitely do the WC first. You might make a mess, and you won't feel as bad about it if you haven't just cleaned the room.

Re: Lorraine's 125 (et. al) - The 2nd Year

Today I made progress and Aquanotes is finally working. I hate it when equipment doesn't work easily (and nothing at my place ever does).

Thanks for stopping by...

Got some new stuff today. Just a few zoo frags for the 50g, and a yellow wrasse for the 125. Sorry, no pics. Don't expect to even see the yellow guy for a few days.

Re: Lorraine's 125 (et. al) - The 2nd Year

Funny you should ask, I just got back a few hours ago. They loved it. It has been snowing so they missed their walk the past few days. I hate walking in winter, but we have shows coming up, so I guess that's good incentive. Think warm - Scottsdale - February..... Can't wait. We have about a foot of snow.

Re: Lorraine's 125 (et. al) - The 2nd Year

I tried boots with my previous dog who did tracking in snow and trust me they'd rather have cold feet. I worry more about ice or salt cracking the pads. Vaseline or Hooflex is a must have for their pads!

Well, the little guy came out this morning. He isn't an early riser so missed breakfast but I'm glad to see him out and about and no one picking on him.

Re: Lorraine's 125 (et. al) - The 2nd Year

I swear I typed 4 replies to this thread to have them all disappear. My mind is gone and so I don't even know what I said.

I remember how cute the little yellow guy was this morning. He came out for breakfast, got chased by my yellow tang, went to his own spot that is above the MJ, the tang went away, and then he was out and about again like nothing happened. This is a regular event between these two (must have something to do with the color yellow). I was worried about my wrasses picking on him but big yellow is a meany!

Oh yeah, I have another salt dilemma. Reef crystal mag problem led me to try yet another new salt. Mixing Reef Crystals with Red Sea Pro was giving me the easiest mix (just adjusted the mag a bit to get a 160 alk, 435 calc, and 1350 mag mixture that runs a pH around 8.0 in the tub). Because of a bad batch of RCrystals, I have gone through a gallon of mag in 1 month.

So, I am trying out Seachem's Reef Salt. Stats:

1.025 Salinity
148 alk (lower than I want)
510 calc (higher than I want)
1175 (much lower than I want, already adjusted this to 1350)
8.2 pH (decent)

So, I'm not sure if I should adjust anything else or not. I can already see a white film covering the equipment in the container. It was mixed on Monday. I have tested values twice (once on Monday and again yesterday). I use Salifert and LaMotte tests.

Suggestions?

What you want a pic first?

Really, suggestions?

I can post a pic of my new ric garden in the 50 if you help me with this. Might have to be tomorrow though since the lights are already out.
