Re: Lorraine's 125 (et. al) - The 2nd Year

Man, where the heck have I been. I can't ever find this thread any more!

Sorry about the video! When I was creating the video it crashed on me several times, so I guess it is still doing the same. I started over many times so that it wouldn't do that. I think programs on my computer must be competing with each other.

I just tracked down this thread to report that I heard from the gal who got my little male black percula clownfish. He was paired with my female in the 125, but about Christmas time he was very thin, off color, and not eating (very much the low guy on the totem pole). I treated him with Formalin 3 and hyposalinity treatment, and watch him in the QT but couldn't ever determine anything wrong with him other than he had a hard time finding food and eating it. I decided to put him in the 29 g tank after about 3 months and the problem continued, but no sign of illness or disease. When I took the 29g tank down, I didn't feel that he could compete in the 50 or 125 so I posted him on our local board "free to good home." Well he found one! She said he is doing well and growing with some special attention. She thinks he is just blind.

Great news that he is doing so well. Just another example of how you are such a good fishy mommy.

My green carpet has decided to do some crazy stuff. He totally flipped over the rock that was next to him, then pushed himself back into the corner behind it. He's wedged in there tight! He seems happy, but it surprized me!

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...(-NO3=WC%)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

Re: Lorraine's 125 (et. al) - The 2nd Year

That green has usually taken up the entire left side of the tank, which is fine by me since this is a species tank. He seems so much smaller since he moved. I'm not worried about him, but I am curious as to what makes these guys do this stuff. I tested water parameters today. I have been lazy about testing and it shows:

125 gallon
Alk - 136 ppm
Calc - 375 ppm
Mag - 1350 ppm
Nitrate - 10-25 ppm (nothing I do seems to make this go down - starve the fish, add more veggies, deeper sand in refugium, sand booster, stresszyme with WCs, or just plain leaving it alone)
Iodide - >.1

55 gallon Anemone Tank
(note I switched the 50 gallon tank to a 55 about a month ago)
Alk -136 ppm
Calc - 365 ppm
Mag - 1305 ppm
Nitrate - 2-5 ppm
Iodide - >.1

I will dose alk and calc to bump these up. I've gone to just using IO again, and I have only been testing/adding mag to it. I think it is also time to refill the kalk reactor.

Well, I'm not sure what you just got done doing and I won't ask. Sounds like you enjoyed it though!

These guys get here on Wednesday, I'm excited. They are going to decorate the 55.

Re: Lorraine's 125 (et. al) - The 2nd Year

The rics arrived today, healthy and happy. I still need to decide what I am going to do with them.

This past weekend I bought a couple of black/white percs for my female black onyx perc. Well, she wasn't real inviting, so they have decided that my frogspawn will suit them both just fine. Who needs to hang around a stuck up mama anyway. It's really hard to get a pic of them, they move around so much. Here's the best video I could get.
