| Harlequin Tuskfish | Re: ReefGuy's 55gal Journal It was straight vodka.... i thought i would put some pep in their step... LOL of course it was tank water. i didnt want to acclimate them to the swimming pool did i? LOL just kidding. yeah its a DIY drip line and the tank lights help keep the water in the jug to temp.

| Harlequin Tuskfish | Re: ReefGuy's 55gal Journal well one snail has passed. RIP.. he was a chunker of a snail. I named him biggie. He somehow ended up behind my rock upside down. I dont know how long he was like that but by the time i got home from work and flipped him back over it must have been to much. He moved around a bit in the same spot, but hasnt moved since. He is in a spot where i cannot get him out. I tried everything. i can get to every other sqaure inch of the tank but this part i got a bamboo rod just enough to flip him over and thats it. I got my skimmer going and im hoping their wont be to much of a spike that it kills all the other snails. Im keeping my fingers crossed. I picked up some of that ceiling grid stuff and made a cover for the top of the tank to keep flying fish in as well as the snails. I also made a cover with it for my fuge so i can put a snail or two in there to keep that clean. Everything else looks good. that carbon really cleaned up my water. it is crystal clear. Im going to order my phosban reactors tomorrow. decided to go with 2 inline with one another in my sump.

| Watch this Ma! | Re: ReefGuy's 55gal Journal Can you use your bamboo rod and scoot him out to a spot that you can reach him? He may have also just found a spot with a lot of food too and is gorging himself.

He might be just resting. maybe he got tired out trying to flip himself over all day.. i dunno. i will see where he is in the morning.

| Harlequin Tuskfish | Re: ReefGuy's 55gal Journal I purchased some new members for the tank today. I picked up two small Oscelleris Clowns, a Scarlet Cleaner Shrimp, and a rock of Neon Green Hairy Mushrooms. I got one of the clowns for free. I didnt realize it until i got home that he only rung me up for one. Oh well what are ya going to do. I acclimated everything and they have been in the tank for several hours. All seems good. I also got something extra on the rock and dont know what it is. I tried to take pics but my camera sucks for these shots. I will have to break out the manual soon to see if i can get some decent shots. I will post pics in a few of what i got. I cant get a pic of the cleaner though. He is still kind of shy. Im working on my timers now to get my lights set up but my timers dont seem to want to work. They have power but they wont click the lights on or off. They are the cheap square whites ones. I might need to get something better cuz i dont think these are working for me. Will post pics in a few. I finally have something more to look at then snails.

| Harlequin Tuskfish | Re: ReefGuy's 55gal Journal My camera didnt take great pics so i played with the color adjustment to get them to look as close as they do with my eye. Some were prefect and others were too much. sorry im a newb at this. Heres the all of them hanging out while getting acclimated. ![]() Here is a pic of The Neon Green Hairy Shrooms ![]() Here is are some close ups of the shrooms ![]() and another ![]() and finally a pic of one of the clowns. I got a pair of them. They get along great. The fishstore had them seperated. I had them put them together while i watched them for about 15 minutes to see how they acted. They never nipped at one another or anything. Im hoping it was love at first site. ![]()

| Harlequin Tuskfish | Re: ReefGuy's 55gal Journal Well i woke up this morning to a few gallons on the floor. Wife was not happy. I looked over every inch on the tank and couldnt for the life of me find out where it came from. Dried up all the water and went to work and came home and no new water. Phew thats good in a way (Still dont know where the water came from). I had a funny observation today. I spend over $300 for the Liverock for my tank and my new Clownfish havent gone near it. Instead they swim on the side of the tank next to a power head. So next time i am going to save on the Live Rock and just by a $20 power head. LOL Everyone still looks happy. Lights when on and i assume will go off with no problems. So far so good.

| Harlequin Tuskfish | Re: ReefGuy's 55gal Journal Well things have been going good. The clowns are happy. They have ventured away from the power head and explored the rock work. My cleaner shrimp seems to dissapear and reappear from time to time. My snails all seem happy. I'm having a hard time getting the cleaning crew i want. all the LFS just carry Astrea snails and hermits. I really want some sand sifting snails and it seems that most online vendors wont ship the small amount i need. So i might have to break down and get some hermits. I just tested my water because i was about to do a water change but i think i might go bi-weekly now. I just got my refractometer from JaK and it worked great. Here are the latest results: Salinity 1.025 Temp 77.6 Ammonia 0 Nitrites 0 Nitrates 0 PH 8.2 Phosphates 0 i thought that something was out of wack because i have a case of bryopsis. I havent plucked it or anything. Im going to wait it out and hopefully my chaeto will out compete the bryopsis and win the algae war. It hasnt really spread this last week. Just the spots where it was it has seem to get real bushy looking. Im hoping it will die out on its own. I also ordered my two little fishies phosban reactor today. I got a tub of kent marine phosban and a tub of kent carbon. I will run them on and off every other week. Hopefully this will help cut down on the Algae. Ive read some great stories on how Phosphates were undetactable and as soon as they added the phosban reactor they noticed the algae died back and eventually went away. So i am assuming its sucking it up before i can even test for it and this should take away the nutrients for the algae. Ive been feeding every other day and my lighting is about 8 hrs.

| Harlequin Tuskfish | Re: ReefGuy's 55gal Journal Today I went to the LFS and picked up some nice red zoas. He had green and red but i already have the hairy green shrooms so i went with the opposite for a good color variation in the tank. I acclimated them for about an hour and put them in. It took them about 2 minutes and they opened right up. Here is a pic of them. Now i just need to figure out a way to get some sand sifting snails. I talked to the LFS he is going to see if he can order them. ![]()

| Harlequin Tuskfish | Re: ReefGuy's 55gal Journal Thanks... it was only $24.95. Just got back from a different LFS and grabbed some hermits. I figure they will get me by for the time being until i can figure out a way to get the sand sifting snails. I really hope the other LFS comes through and orders them. Its not like their tank couldnt use a few either. LOL. I cant wait to get the phosban reactor and start getting the phosban going so i can see what it does to this algae.

| Harlequin Tuskfish | Re: ReefGuy's 55gal Journal OK i officially want to join the evil crab society. Crabs are Evil. One hopped onto a snail that was cruising along and killed him and took over his shell. My wife said she thinks she saw another one do this the other day but forgot to tell me. GRRRRRRRRRRR. Well today i recieved my shipment from NorthEastCoral and i acclimated the snails and shrimp for an hour. They are now in may tank happy as can be. I recieved my Phosban Reactor yesterday and i am off to a supply store now to get some 1/2 tubing. I took all the hermits and put them in my fuge for the time being. Ill probably leave them there to hang out until they die or dwindle down to a managable # for the fuge. I have a few stay hermits hiding here or there and i will pluck them as i see them. Once done my tank will be Hermit free. i love the snails i got today. They move so fast and they are so funny when they burrow and leave their little pipe sticking out of the sand. The peppermint Shrimp disappeared as soon as i put him in there. I havent seen the scarlet shrimp in days either. There must be some secret shrimp club somewhere i dont know about. Oh well hopefully they both are ok.. probably hiding under a rock. Alright time to get the tubing. Im sure will be posting a phosban reactor thread once i try to get it up and running.
