Re: Althea's 90 Gallon.....

Six months would be fine. It's really tough though. You should in fact have all of your inverts (corals, shrimp, crabs, etc.) well established before adding any fish at all to give the inverts the best possible chance of establishing themselves. ...That's even tougher!

I'm glad the light worked out. Did MD send you a new bulb for free? Their customer service totally rocks and it would be something they would do if you asked.

Re: Althea's 90 Gallon.....

I agree give the tank time to adjust to the corals and inverts. Add fish two months apart. Awesome patients and discipline Sarah!

ok! thanks Jack... yeah im pretty fed up with all this... i thought i would be happy with this light, because it has the moonlights, t-5's and MH's all in one...and i have been less than pleased. so i would probably have to get the light and moonlights... probably going to be way more expensive than i thought.. we'll see what the hubby has to say...

Re: Althea's 90 Gallon.....

ok, so now they want me to try and run the halide that is "working" with a blown bulb for a couple hours to see if it works.. cause you know.. it sometimes takes a couple hours for a MH to turn and the coolest thing about all this.. is they seem to think its a "magic!!!" bulb... maybe the longer i have it plugged in and ON, it will mend its blown fuses and start working again!!! Awesome! cant wait to see! should i video tape this for proof that magic DOES exist!

i do believe in fairies...i do believe in fairies.. i do believe in fairies!!!!

in case you missed the sarcasm dripping from the page...i am quite upset and frustrated and am using sarcasm and humor to hide it!

hey im not sure of anything! i am going by what they say... they are the experts!!! right??? hmmm... yes i do think its the ballast, but i will try what they want me to try to rule things out... but yes in the meantime i will let my tank sit without the MH lighting... at least i have the T-5's!!! "knock on wood" cause im sure that now that i say that... those will find their demise entirely too early as well.

Re: Althea's 90 Gallon.....

You're stuck in the corporate exposure mitigation loop, wasting your time while they find out it is the most expensive fix that is the root of the problem.

Send them an email to the effect that while you are happy to comply with their resolution process you believe that the ballast is the issue.

Re: Althea's 90 Gallon.....

I feel for you Sarah.
I've had similar experiences calling computer help(less) lines.
Even if it's something I've done already they still have me do it again while they are on the phone. Just in case I don't know how to turn off a DSL router, wait 10 seconds, then turn it back on. lol

Most of the time it's some dufuss sitting in a cubicle in India reading through the book of troubleshooting. I've actually heard the pages turning before.
They have to go step by step to make sure nothing is overlooked. Sometimes I wish I could just say "skip to page 5, I've already tried all the other stuff"

Hope this problem works out for you eventually.

They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on.
