Re: Althea's 90 Gallon.....

Ok, so i have started the equipment cleaning... i already did the overflow piping.. forgot to take before pictures... bthe tops of them were covered in coraline and the whole of the piping was covered in that really hard white specks and things that look like worms! LOL... now they look brand new!

there were two different types of pumps...i am unclear as to what they are.. brand type the amount of pressure it puts out ect. here is the first one.. anyone have an ID? lol this one i have scraped all the crap off.. now i just need to clean it...

here is the second one im not entirely sure as to where this goes or what its function is...

here are the power heads. 2 different types.. one is labeled on is not. :P? i know the one is a maxi jet, the other..? dont know.. but the maxi jet puts out 295gps filthy as you can see.. i will post an after picture of all these when i am done cleaning!

This is the skimmer.. needs A LOTof cleaning!!! lol.. having even begun to tackle this beast... but again.. look how dirty it is :P dude said he cleaned the stuff.. yeah right.. what rinsed it?! and i noticed when i took the picture there is duct tape around the bottom left "thing" what should i do about that? can i replace? and all tubing will be replaced.. but here it is..

and last but not least the UV sterilizer... 25 watt, so it should do a pretty good job on my 90g... again, all tubes will be replaced.. eww those look nasty!

Re: Althea's 90 Gallon.....

Impressive cleaning Sarah!

Just toss the pumps in vinegar for an hour then wipe them down.

Looking forward to following you along.

Let me know if there is anything I can do to help you out!

Re: Althea's 90 Gallon.....

Glass tanks are tough. It is possible but probably not worth it. Check this out.
If the tank was plexiglass, it would be easier to repair.

You are on your way, I painted about 70 10-20 gallon tanks with a blue background just like you did....we did it for a retail setup....all of your hardwork WILL pay off in the end...Looking really good! even though there is no water in it!!

Re: Althea's 90 Gallon.....

the tank has a megaflow in it...which arent very old at all...sooo I think it would be ok for that short of a time...becareful, dont take everything they say like a grain of sand....Most of the people on here and When I gave advice at a retail store, it was all from past experiences, there is only so much people can learn from a book....absorb some...not all.....learn by doing....

Re: Althea's 90 Gallon.....

I wouldn't worry about the silicone for a short time period. I hav left empty tanks lying around in the garage for extended periods of time with no problem. If you wanted to be extra certain you could fill it with tap water just to keep it wet, but I don't think it is necessary at all.

Re: Althea's 90 Gallon.....

well the rock has begun!!! My sister came over and helped me too! LOL

So i started off with 2 flat storage under the bed containers and filled it with 2-3 inches of crushed oyster shells. i wet the oyster shells so that they were damp.. not too wet.

I then started the mix:

4 parts aragonite fine grade sand and 1 part Portland type 1 cement and 1 1/2 parts water. slowly added the water while mixing. I

after that was done, i made the shapes i wanted in the oyster shell basin and placed the cement in there a little clumpy i hope it stayed that way. tonight around 5pm i will see what it looks like.! if not what i desired then i will try something else.but i made an arch rock, a shelf rock and L shaped shock and i don't even know what my sister made! :P so i will see tonight!

here is the freshly made mix...

here we are about to put the mix into our molds

and here i am on my last mold, the L shape...i showed where the other 2 are.

ok, well pictures of the product post drying!!! tonight! we shall see! im sure im going to need a fresh batch... i will probably do a crushed oyster shell / sand/ cement/ water mix next time... i have a feeling these aren't too pretty! LOL for rocks! :P
