Re: Althea's 90 Gallon.....

I can surely tell you're having FUN!

When you ordered your MarcoRock, how did you calculate the weight you wanted? Did you figure the weight of the rock when WET?

I have some of the Fiji on order, and I added in the suggested 20-40% (I added 30% weight) that water will add to the rock when deciding on how much I needed. I'm wondering if you did the same?

i am having fun...cant wait to see my rock... i basically just ordered a certain poundage of different types and i will then scape the way i like and add or remove as needed.

i will also be needing about 225 pounds of sand, cause i want a 3 in. sand bed. so i will be getting 12 20 pounds bags this weekend of live sand.

Re: Althea's 90 Gallon.....

Looks like everything is comming together for ya. Just a suggestion, I would not buy LS. It tends to be a waste. If you put in regular reef sand or buy the bagged Live sand you will save alot of money. By the time LS gets to dealers and then to you alot of the life is dead anyways. i would just let you Live Rock seed everything.

Re: Althea's 90 Gallon.....

Ah, I see, that makes sense... you can play around and choose the rocks that will look the best together. I'm pretty much decided on PEA's Tonga Nuuku Fusion LR.

I'm also going with a DSB... probably 4-5", so I'm going to need a lot of sand, too! I'm using Tropic Eden Aragasnow, sugar size. I've been buying a bag at a time when I have the extra "pocket money". How did you calculate how much sand you needed?

Re: Althea's 90 Gallon.....

Thanks, Sarah... I'm thinking it may matter what type and grain size of sand you're using.. because different size grains may mean different weights and amounts?

I think there are other calculators out there.. I'm going on a search. If I find something I'll post back with it. Sorry if I raised an issue for you!

That should take care of it. The #4's are 1200 gph each. That's 2400. Assuming your return pump from your sump is 1200 gph then you should be good to go.

lol.. there within lies the problem.. i have NO idea what my gph of my pump is... it is definitly a "quiet one" with the higher head... so it seems it can really be only 1 of 3 products.. there are only 3 of these that are made with the higher head. :P im not sure how to go about finding out what pump i have.

Re: Althea's 90 Gallon.....

It's worth a shot! What are the numbers? And a pic of the pump would help. I bet we can figure out what it is.

ok here is a pic of the number, hjard to explain... but i think the one with the line pointing to the circle of numbers, represents this pumps model number and where it lies in the grand scheme of model numbers!! LOL.. i dont know.. thats my guess... but i cannot find that model number anywhere!!! these number are inside.. after i took off the the front grey piece to clean the inside, i saw these numbers... ok, here is the pic..

and here is the pump, i believe it is a Rainbow Lifegard Quiet One Aquarium Pump. and it is VERY quiet!!!!! runs very nicely! its only one of like 3 with what they call a high head.

Re: Althea's 90 Gallon.....

ok, i got all my live rock, still waiting on the marco.... rock looks great!!!

got the skimmer and all the plumbing hooked up.. i have a half full tank right now, just to keep the rock wet. so a heater, circulation and water is ACTUAALLY moving in my tank! woohoo!! water looks pretty dirty! eww!

now when i get the marco rock in.. should i just add it to the rest, fill the tank up the rest of the way and start running my skimmer? or should i take that water out and add all fresh.. seems like such a waste! :P

cause once i fill the tank up the rest of the way(march 4th i think or 3rd...) i will then be putting my sand in and starting my cycle. let me know about the water thing.. thanks!
