Re: 10g Catchup +

I think to save money I will do a overflow/siphon into it. How thick acrylic should I use? How tall do you recommend?

Re: 10g Catchup +

Idea revised. This will cost less and be more explored territory as its very similar to my HOB overflow on the reef.
What do yall think?

Re: 10g Catchup +

Well, I figure one price, it is for something wrong and goes up, find that cheaper but somehow I refigure it and its double. Well, the tanks looking like its in easer reach right now. But it still may be awhile till start. Things have put me back and I should wait until everything else is done before starting something new. Gah.

Re: 10g Catchup +

I do that too. Start a project and get it almost finished and start thinking of something else so off I go. I'm working on not doing that anymore.

Re: 10g Catchup +

For trim/braes I come up with this;
Take 1" strips of acrylic and make a 1" high square. Then take two L shape pieces and glue them to the top of that. It will create plastic angle iron.
Or hey, I could just but plastic angle iron.

I have got a new filter design, it eliminates the pump!
Here;
No measurements are to scale. It doesn't show everything, such as the baffle being high as the bottom of the teeth of the overflow. Or the drain pipe in the tank going most the way to the bottom.

What do yall think?

Re: 10g Catchup +

OMG OMG OMG a graet idea! Eeeeee!

LOL J/K

I did come up with this, PVC pipe. 3/4" PVC pipe making a closed square and with a 3/8" notch cut out in one side. This will allow the glass to fit in. Paint it all black.

Re: 10g Catchup +

It won't work. And heres why;
For the return siphon to work the water level in the HOB must be higher than in the tank. So the baffle must be higher than the tank. The baffle top must be somewhere in the overflow height. The overflow must be in the tank, with water flowing in it. So the return needs baffle height, the overflow needs to be as hight the baffle, witch would mean its out of water, out of tank. There for water can't get into tit to feed it.
I hope that makes sense. I ain't good at explaining...

Re: 10g Catchup +

Stupid strike twice. DOH
First with the impossible filter ( am back to one as in post #78. Man, I feel stupid )
And now, the PVC will work for the top, but the bottom, The glass would rest on the edges in the pipe, and the pipe would rest on only one spot. Crack. Crack? Fix? Need? ?

Re: 10g Catchup +

I decided it be smartest to finish all other tank projects be fore start a new one. I got the PVC plumbing done on my reef, well almost. FW light is next. Will keep you posted as I plow through;
FW light part 1 & 2
Renforcing FW stand
Redoing FW plants
Getting more FW fish
New light bulb ob the reef
add baffle to sump
Getting SW water chemistry solution long term ( adding drip containers, finding a good method, getting test kits )

And then A NEW TANK!!!

Re: 10g Catchup +

Update

For the current 29g my favorite fish ( and most expensive ) died. He jumped out, I thought I had it sealed well enough. The Peacock Eel still got through.
In reef news Just some small changes, skimmer, sump, corals.
