Re: 10g Catchup +

The sump I had made was 40x22x18 and I made it out of 1/4" acrylic. It didn't bow or anything with a euro brace welded on top of it.

1/4" just seemed really fragile BUT it held up great! I kept about 40g in it too.

Re: 10g Catchup +

Sounds like 1/4th it is then. I'll get some local estimates.
Btw, no bowing is a pretty standard thing. Glass don't bow much - it breaks.

Re: 10g Catchup +

Ahhh, now my comment was about acrylic. I'm not sure what thickness in glass you will need.

Ops, I went to my LFS. I needed RO and carbon. But I saw fish too. So now I have to chose again.
Any 2 or 3 of these;

Kribensis
Leleupi
Marlieri
Ornatus

+pleco.

Re: 10g Catchup +

I made a model out of yard sticks. Its alot more of a cube that I thought. How ever, I will still need a creative solution for air. I don't like bubble columns and will sleep just inches from it so that rules out the conventional air line to the bottom with a stone. The filter, unless I hear ( hint ) of something good as or better than an Aqua Clear ( AC ) for the same price, filter won't help me. I think, anyway. I could run a pipe from the bottom of the tank all the way up the back ( on the out side ) and have it pour back into the top, the top of the pipe being open. An air column in it during the day. It would also help circulation in the rock work.

Re: 10g Catchup +

This was derailing for awhile. The ( except from Jack ) only considerable quote would have a shipping price of more than the tank its self.
I looked into glass online and found it to affordable. But shipping. I looked up the company and they are close by. So 50lbs of glass shipped ground ( DHL ) is only $10-20!!!
So the trim/supports/braces...? Ideas?
$120 for glass ( shipped ) and silicone.

Re: 10g Catchup +

today is a big DIY research day.
So I don't forget ( notes get lost ) I will record notes here.
1/4" glass walls
Bottom = 14 1/4 " x 17 1/4"
Front = 15 " x 24"
Back = 15 " x 24"
2 Sides = 24 " x 17 1/4"
Top Front/Back brace = 14 1/4 " x 2"
Top Sides brace = 17 1/4 " x 2"
emery cloth or silicone carbide sandpaper and then nail polish remover to clean b4 silicone

I think I will use angle iron and JB Weld for top brace ( and maybe bottom one to ), it will be powder coated. I will look into this to see if its plausible.

Re: 10g Catchup +

Are you sure you want angle iron at the top of the tank. Even with coating I would be a little leary of it. Angle iron rusts like crazy.
