Re: 10g Catchup +

Keep in mind, nothings in stone yet.
This is a list of cichlids I plan on, Its not tank volume as much as it is footprint that matters wit cichlids. Ex, a 20L is 'the same' as a 29g. So I am limited cause of aggression. Atleast Bio load will be light.
And this is subject to change ( as it will, come on, 6 months ), except the pleco, as I already have him and he will soon be terrorizing plants. The # here is only posible becuase the pleco won't fight and the Cyp actually occupies the top.

Pleco
Leleupi
Cyprichromis leptosoma
Marlieri
Ornatus

Re: 10g Catchup +

Send usplastics an email and ask them. They would also be able to recommend a thickness.

I'm not sure but I believe they use cast for aquariums.

Re: 10g Catchup +

I think I will do this;
I will have extra plywood enough to skin at least the front.
It will still be 6" high and 2 8' 2x4s.

Re: 10g Catchup +

The first design has a little more character to it but the 2nd would be stronger. The first design would also be a bit harder to make.

Re: 10g Catchup +

I have heard alot of bad about my list. I will be adding them s l o w l y so I feel confident that I can watch them and avert problems using different staginess. If problems arise in the future, one or more can be moved out.
I will consider what everyone has to say, but in the end I will try to do what I can, maybe your all right, or maybe I can make it work.
Thank you all for your input as I do not want to make fish unhappy, stressed, or not meet there needs, I will probaly not get the Cyp.. I also appreciate more suggestions. ,,,I am hogging this thread.
Also, I will have ample rock work due to the depth;
width : depth
AGA 29; 2:.8
My 29g; 2:2.5

:(

The list is looking more like this now;

Pleco
Marlieri
Ornatus

or

Pleco
Ornatus
Ornatus

or

Pleco
Marlieri
Marlieri

or

Pleco
Leleupi
Leleupi
Leleupi

I am not at all happy with the necessary cut-backs. I will, however, probaly wind up with one of those lists. I care more about the well-being of the fish than what I have to look at. There are other options to look into...

Re: 10g Catchup +

So yeah, my fish options are;
any two of these;
Leleupi
Marlieri
Ornatus

or
3 Leleupi

And the pleco. He will be going into it, period.

I scouted out some stuff at Wal*Mart, the compact flouescant ( for aquariums )
window screen
socket
cord
=$17

I think I will cut the bottom inch off the light box, hinge the rest on, then screw/silicone it to the cover.

The stand will be
+/-$22

( 2 8' 2x4, 4x4' plywood, spray paint, screws, corner braces )

Filter will probaly be an AquaClear HOB, if you have a better idea ( that isn't more $ ), throw it my way.

Re: 10g Catchup +

Well, I would need $200 in acrylic to do this in real life. thats more than twice original estimate. So, out of curiosity, I found that I can have a simple, low, low end custom glass with those dimensions for $125. I will look into DIY glass and probaly do that. Thanks.

Re: 10g Catchup +

I have found no calculator or table for glass thickness. What do you all think?

Re: 10g Catchup +

12$ top ( acrylic )
And $80 for glass ( .25" thick ). This is the online place, so its less than local. The bottom I will go thicker. I just estimated the thickness, my AGA 29g 18" tall is 3/16", so 4/16" ( 1/4" ) should be good. I'm thinking +/- $110. + silicone. And for top trim? I want something... but what?
