Re: Terry's 120g money pit

I got the ethernet controller powered up, hooked up to my network, and configured and that piece is working.

Step #1 - DONE!

Re: Terry's 120g money pit

Heinz, I bought a DIY kit from automatedaquariums.com. It's really the ultimate in flexibility. I'm even planning on hooking the house AC and Heat into it. Because in the summer, we turn the AC up to 85 when we are at work, the water could get pretty warm and my chiller wouldn't be able to keep it cool enough. So I'll be able to monitor the water temp and the air temp and turn the houses AC on if it passes a threshold. Same for the heat during the winter.

That's just an example of the kind of flexibility I can get out of the DIY controller from automated aquariums. And since I leave work at all sorts of different times I can attach to the controller from work and turn the heat or ac on before I leave so I don't walk into a freezer or an oven.

Scott, that is the RBTA I bought at Mr. Coral. We measured it last weekend when it was fully open and it's 12" x 11". It's actually bigger now and it stretches out across the substrate. I think it's irritated some of the fish though because when it opens up it completely blocks one of the big tunnels that all the fish used to swim through.

I'd like a controller that I could log in and do my job while out playing a round of golf...

Re: Terry's 120g money pit

Actually, the manufacturer does make this devices to work in Europe.

ICPDAS

AutomatedAquariums is a reseller AND they are obviously getting great prices. Not to mention, they've already figured out the software and how to connect everything so I'm not blazing a new trail. Their support is fantastic too.

Like I said earlier, this solution is a bit more expensive then an off the shelf solution BUT the possibilities are endless. I'm working on the program now to do a constant water change in my system. Two gallons per hour, every hour. It very well could mean I never/rarely need to dose anything.

And of course, automatedaquariums also has an off the shelf solution.

And check out the selection of probes to choose from:
http://hannainst.com/usa/
http://www.astisensor.com/proise.htm

Or do a google search for "ion-specific electrodes".

The possibilities are wide open.

Re: Terry's 120g money pit

Here is what I have so far. The only thing that I have working is the top off. The others are for how I see it looking. It's going to take me a month or two to get all of the components connected and working.
