Re: Terry's 120g money pit

Well, I hit the "Buy" button on a 72" Solaris I4. I'll use my Outer Orbit 48" for the rest of the 10 feet for now. Maybe for Christmas I'll get a 48" Solaris to complete the lighting for the 10 foot long tank.

Re: Terry's 120g money pit

Dick said he got my order and called PFO right away, he said they still had 6 slots available for the 72", now they have 5. So my light should be on the next shipment.

Re: Terry's 120g money pit

OMG!!!

hehehehehe.....

It IS Christmas time, isn't it???

OK! Well, the stand is DONE!!! The lights are planned out and ORDERED!!! The pumps I'll need should be here TOMORROW!!! The replacement center brace piece of glass should be here in 2-3 weeks.

We have to finish the large open doorway and lay down the tile. That's like a weekends worth of work. I'll probably make a trip down to Pacific East Aquaculture to pick up 500 pounds of live rock sometime in the next couple weeks.

Geez! I'll probably start cycling this 450 within a month! WOW!!!

Oh yeah, the stand...

OK! I got a call yesterday from the guy I bought the tank from. He said that his ex-wife has the stand for this tank and she is getting ready to move to North Carolina and she wanted to get rid of it. He sent me a picture, we negotiated a little and he delivered it tonight!!!

This thing is built like a TANK!!! It's truly a beautiful piece of furniture. It's also THIRTY SIX INCHES tall! With my decision to go with the Solaris, heat really isn't a concern anymore and I'll still have 22 inches between the top of the tank and the ceiling. PERFECT!

As you can see, there is a 4" ledge of finished wood along each edge and the front. The tank sits on the black area. The top already has the holes cut in it to run the pipes up into the tank. You can see those in this picture too.

The front has three sets of doors. It's really a VERY nice piece of furniture. And I don't have ANY doubts that it will hold the tank. The stand comes apart and it has a 4x4 frame throughout the stand.

Re: Terry's 120g money pit

Wow! Is that cherry wood it's made from? That really is a nice piece of furniture. Excellent!! Plus, no modification necessary. Sweet!

Re: Terry's 120g money pit

That's what it looks like to us too. We aren't sure. It IS made out of real wood though. The shell of it is at least. The guy I bought it off of, bought this setup from the original owner and he said he paid $5,000 to have the stand built for the tank. I believe it!

Now, how do I get the tank up on top of the stand without scratching it all up?

hmmmm...........

Re: Terry's 120g money pit

Terry, if I lived closer I would help.

See, this is a win win situation. There is no way for you to cash in on this promise and I come out sounding like a stand up guy.

The reef gods were watching over you on that stand.
Nice score! (I hope, you didn't mention $)

They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. Re: Terry's 120g money pit

Come on Victor. I just checked. You can get a round trip ticket to Dulles for $199. You could be here in 7 hours....

uh oh...

NOW what???

Just kidding of course.

And yes, the Reef Gods have definitely smiled on this build. I wasn't expecting to get water into the tank for 6 months! Unexpected things happened and everything just fell right into place.

I had a lot of trouble sleeping last night.
