| Watch this Ma! | Re: Terry's 120g money pit Thanks CMG. I googled for information and there just isn't anything safe that will dissolve cured silicon. It's just going to take a lot of patience and elbow grease. I'm about half way through the silicon under the remaining piece. It's just really nerve wracking. ![]()

| Acropora ![]() | Re: Terry's 120g money pit Terry, get yourself a good sharp linoleum knife and run it under the glass. It will slice through the silicone. That's what I did when I needed to replace the top trim on one of my tanks.

| Watch this Ma! | Re: Terry's 120g money pit I've never seen a brace like that before. They have 4 1/2" pieces siliconed on to the inside of each side, and then a 2' x 2' piece that is siliconed onto the top of those pieces AND it goes from edge to edge of the tank. There are also 6" pieces that go from edge to edge on both sides of the tank. The center piece is siliconed onto the top edges of the tank and siliconed on to the surface of the smaller pieces. I had to order another 4 1/2" piece for the other side and the big piece. Total price, including shipping, $300. So I bought a 450g 3/4" thick glass aquarium that is drilled for a closed loop for $800. I won't count the material for the stand and the lights and the live rock and the livestock and the.... ![]()

| Watch this Ma! | Re: Terry's 120g money pit I had bought the mitre saw and a table saw a while ago. We are going to be building a garage later this year. We are also going to Woodcrafters to take some lessons on the use of Routers. We would like to make new cabinets for the kitchen, fish tanks, birds, etc. ![]() Working with wood is actually a very relaxing activity and it's a great break from working with computers all day. Back to the tank project. ![]() For the return connections inside the tank for the closed loop, which would you use? Eductors? Champion Lighting & Supply :: Plumbing :: Eductors :: Modular Pump Eductor 1" Or the 3/4" flare nozzels? Champion Lighting & Supply :: Plumbing :: Modular Pipe The only concern I have with the eductors is how do you keep livestock out of them?

| The CodFather ~ | Re: Terry's 120g money pit for the penductors you will need a pressure rated pump for them to work properly

| Watch this Ma! | Re: Terry's 120g money pit Good point. I wasn't planning on a pressure rated pump. I was going to use a Hammerhead for the closed loop. Although, if I upgrade to a Manta Ray, and use the Eductors, that would probably provide enough flow for this tank... hmmmmm.......

| Midas Blenny | Re: Terry's 120g money pit Oh my - just reading this - I am exhausted! I am living this!! Well I am trying to help - most of the time we have different mind views - but it will all be beautiful when it is completed - I keep having to remind Terry that this is an evolutionary project - it will take lots and lots of time! The work to make it happen is half the fun - well that is my story and I'm sticking with it!! Thanks to all of you - for giving Terry a "good" sounding board - I know nada when it comes to this stuff - you guys are a tremendous help THANK YOU!!! ![]() |

| Watch this Ma! | Re: Terry's 120g money pit I had received my temperature probe equipment for my controller a couple days ago. I got one of them hooked up. I'm going to hook another one up now so I can get comparision readings. The one I have hooked up agrees with the chiller though so I'm feeling good about that. ![]() I got four probes. One for the fuge, one for the skimmer tub, and one each for the 120 and 150 tanks. I'm not going to hook those up just yet. They will go in the big, replacement tanks for the 120 and 150. Oh yeah, one other thing. Did you all know that groupers grow REALLY FAST?!?!?!? Geez, this guy is the size of the triggers already! I'll try to get pictures of him but he lives in the rock crevices. He was out swimming around during feeding time tonight though. He is THE most beautiful fish I've seen but he is going to get big quick!

Unfortunately, that is right Terry. Cephalopholis miniata grows relatively fast up to about 2/3 of his final size, then the growth stagnates almost always in the aquarium. I could observe this even already and also with fishes of one of my friends it was mostly as described before. The final size of the Cephalopholis miniata was about 30 cm.
