Re: Terry's 120g money pit

hehehe...

Ok! Here is a FTS of our predator FOWLR tank. We will be adding the artificial corals Monday evening so this is a good before pic.

We REALLY need to get a back cover on this tank...

Re: Terry's 120g money pit

Now, the controller pieces.

First, the top piece is the power supply for the Ethernet module, and all of the control and monitor modules.
The blue piece is the ethernet module which I have connected to my network so I can attach to it from any PC.

This is the sensor module and it provides me information from all of the probes, such as the float switchs, flow switches, PH probe, etc. The electric box is going to be removed once I get the two pumps hooked into the relays.

This is the relay rack. The bigger relays at the bottom will have the higher powered devices connected to them, such as the pumps. The smaller ones have everything else connected to them, such as the top off pump, MH's, T5, moon lights (blue, white), etc.

This is the control module. I can control up to 13 devices with this module.

Here are the extension cords that we just finished running from the relays to up behind the tank. I'll hook these up tomorrow. One each for MH1, MH2, T5, Blue Moonlight, White Moonlight.

No comments about the Barbie book either!!! I like to read before bed...

Dang BRO! You've gone all Star Trek on us, LOL. Is this something you buy or do you have to be an electronic genious and DIY?

I thought the Barbie book added just the right touch!

Re: Terry's 120g money pit

Nah, they sell kits already put together, including the software to run it. It's not the best software but it certainly would do anything you would care to do with it.

I enjoy doing this type of stuff so I bought the pieces that I needed and I'm putting it all together myself. I got one of the pumps for the predator tank hooked into it today and I got the blue moonlight hooked in and working. I wasted most of the afternoon wiring in the pump though. I used one of those heavy duty extension cords and it has a little built into in the end which comes on when power is present. Well, no matter what, I couldn't make that light go out. Scratched my head for quite a while on this one. Finally I plugged a light into the cord and run my program. Low and behold, the light does come on and go off.

I trim the insulation on the extension cord in order to get to the black wire. I cut it in half and strip the ends. These ends go into the relay so I can control the power flow in the cord. The white and green wires are untouched and continue on from end to end. Apparently, the white wire carries just enough voltage to light that stupid light in the end of the cord.

It takes the black wire to be connected to the power source in order to carry enough voltage to run anything though. That wire is cut or connected via the relay depending on what my program says to do.

Re: Terry's 120g money pit

Thanks Scott! Things are really coming together and getting finished so hopefully in a few weeks I'll be able to patch shut and fix the access holes I cut in the dry wall.

My house is such a disaster right now.

Re: Terry's 120g money pit

Way back on page 8, I mentioned a place that sells live silverside. I called them today. They now only sell small larvae in lots of 250. With shipping and everything it would be about $80. He said it would take around 2-3 months before they were of a size for feeding predator purposes. I said "Never mind".

DARN!!!

Re: Terry's 120g money pit

Well, I got the two moon led lights hooked up and working and I got everything wired up and ready to go for one of the MH's. It's too late to be messing around the tank now, others are sleeping here already.

I'm actually looking FORWARD to getting all this stuff done so I can clean everything up and get our house back. Although, I DID start to rip out the carpet in the basement and replacing it with vinyl tiles. Oh jeez, I forgot about THAT job...
