Re: Terry's 120g money pit

Funny that you mention that, Frankie. I just ordered replacement bulbs (bulbs are about 9 months old) and I ordered 14k MH's. I also ordered different T5's.
D-D Giesemann Powerchrome Pure Actinic 54W 48 inch T5 High Output Fluorescent Lamp (Saltwater Aquarium Supplies > Lighting > Bulbs > T5 )
D-D Giesemann Powerchrome Actinic+ 54W 48 inch T5 High Output Fluorescent Lamp (Saltwater Aquarium Supplies > Lighting > Bulbs > T5 )

And the MH's:
250 Watt 14000K Metal Halide Bulb - Current USA Powerpaq, Double-Ended (Saltwater Aquarium Supplies > Lighting > Bulbs > Metal Halide > Double Ended > 250 Watts )

Re: Terry's 120g money pit

I'm not worried about the MH's working in my fixture because they are made by Current USA, as is my fixture.

I'm a little worried about the T5's though. They should work though, right?

Re: Terry's 120g money pit

I disconnected all the pieces and parts to the controller and I started installing them in the location where they will be and will be placing it into active duty. Things should go pretty quick now that I've figured out the programming and the wiring connections.

Re: Terry's 120g money pit

Sure. 54 watt t5 bulbs should work with any 54 watt t5 ballast. I don't think there is going to be a manufacturing conflict with t5's like there are with MH's.

Re: Terry's 120g money pit

JoJo, have you checked out MarineDepot.com?

Thanks xelnaga15. It's a work in progress but I'm positive I can make it work now.

I finished installing and hooking up everything in it's permanent location for the sensor and controller modules. It's connected to my network and my program is able to get readings and it turned on the topoff pump when it discovered that the water level was low. It turned the pump off when the water level was brought back up.

IT LIVES!!!

So let's see some more pics Dr. tbittnerstein!

Edit: I mean of the equipment. Nice inhabitant pics!! BTW, that trumpet is indestructible, I swear. Even the crappy pieces have sprouted heads and become something you'd see in a LFS for some cash.

Re: Terry's 120g money pit

The trumpet absolutely amazes me! I love looking at it at night with a flash light. It has some serious feelers out of each and every head and, what looks like, thousands of them.

I'll take some pics tomorrow night of the controller. I didn't have wire nuts to secure the ends of one of the connections so I wasn't able to staple all the wires onto studs just yet.

Terry, I just saw the pictures of your new additions...very nice! What is that pale pink coral that's at the top of your tank? It looks like soft cotton candy.. It's beautiful.

Looks great Terry! Did you go back to Mr. Coral? That anemone is gigantor!

A tank heart is a wonderful thing! Thump-thump!

Re: Terry's 120g money pit

Barb, that's an acropora. It's an SPS so I placed it high in the tank because they like strong light. It also gets a nice random flow there from the Vortec pump. I love the Vortecs.

Scott, I tried to talk my wife into going back up this weekend but then I thought better of it.

Yeah, the anemone is a MONSTER! I keep hoping to wake up and see it split but no luck yet.

The new, small pink coral is a Dendrophyllia that I got from VividAquariums when I bought the Grouper. It's an awesome looking coral. I need to take an evening and get MUCH better pics of everything. That batch really kind of sucked.

My new bulbs have shipped too and should be here by this weekend. Once I get them in I should be able to get much better pics too.

I'm busy now installing my controller software onto three other PC's. The first one that starts will be the master, the other PC's will monitor the master. If the master fails to respond, one of the other three will take over. It all happens automatically too.

Gee, this is fun!

Re: Terry's 120g money pit

Kathy, the truly amazing thing about the anemone is when I bought it, it was smaller then my hand. I honestly had NO idea it would get that big! Sonny (Mr. Coral) DID tell me that it's a big one but I had no idea it could inflate itself that much.
