Re: Terry's 120g money pit

Terry,

You can also try him on some live feeder shrimp to see if that entices him to eat.

Re: Terry's 120g money pit

Actually, if you look close, there is a small piece of silverside laying on the bottom in one of the pics. He ate all the other pieces, and it was a BIG silverside. He seems really healthy.

He is only about 3" so I'm really concerned about putting him into the predator tank. The triggers are about 5" and the snowflake is about 14". Obviously, the 55 isn't connected to the large water volume so I guess we'll just be changing 10% of the water every four days or so.

We did add around 90 lbs of LR to the predator tank last night so he would have a ton of hiding places. I'm really concerned about being able to get food to him though. It's tough to get food past the triggers and eels. Even Ghost comes out and chases others around in order to get food. He is a brave little eel.

hmmmmm, come to think of it, Ghost IS a fairly small eel and everyone leaves him alone, so maybe the grouper will be fine in the predator tank. I really don't want to put him in the reef tank, although with his colors, he sure would add to the beauty of it. At least for a while. I wouldn't look forward to catching him at some point though.

Re: Terry's 120g money pit

On another note, I DID request pricing for an "L" shaped aquarium from a couple different companies. Each side will be 120x30x30 for a total volume of about 1,000g. I'm thinking of having slide guides installed in it so I can slide a piece of acrylic into the tank to separate the volume. Predators on one side, reef and "nice" fish on the other.

Do you think my 330g sump/fuge would be big enough to support a tank of that size? At the spot that I would install this tank, in the basement, I can easily drain the water into the 100g sump, then circulate the water through the skimmer tub and additional skimmer, and through the fuge. A different pump would pump water back into the tank.

Great grouper Batman! Nice fish Terry. When did that come into your reef-world? Where did you get it? On-line or LFS?

I'd wait and let him get acclimated and bold in the 55, good chance to QT for 6 - 8 weeks. You can then judge how he will do in the predator's lair.

Re: Terry's 120g money pit

I order him from Vivid Aquariums. He isn't the easiest fish to find.

Great suggestion, Craig. Thanks! I think I'll move some LR into the 55 to give him a few hiding spaces. He does come out from behind the pump and swims all over the 55 already though so he seems to be pretty bold already.

He really is one of the prettiest fish I've seen.

Here is one of my other favorites. I LOVE the personality on these guys. He's like "la, la, la, da, da, da, doobie, doobie, doo" all the time.

Nice Terry! I think your sump/fuge set up is surely big enough to handle both tanks. At the most more LR & additional skimmer.

Yeah JoJo, I also have calls into a couple companies to see what kind of deal they would give me on 1,500 lbs of LR.

Re: Terry's 120g money pit

Why? I love my reef. Such beautiful colors and it's really going to be a show piece.

I also really love our predator tank which is FOWLR but to keep predators, that's the way it almost has to be... FOWLR. With the right setup, neither is any more difficult to maintain then the other.

And you are certainly building a great setup and positioning yourself for success with a reef. It would also be successful as a FOWLR.
