Re: Althea's 28g Nano

oh so you cut the baffle in the tank?
i cut the magnet off the skimmer...

im not sure a diy extension would help much. in fact it may make it perform worse.. my idea was to make a square cup that would actuall fit past the lips of the tank. my cup fits loosely what you want is the cup to sit completely flat on the opening of the box and SEAL it. i dont think its supposed to suction down on it.

I am definitely not building a whole new cup for this skimmer 1. i do not have the skills to do something like that...2. how ridiculous! i bought this skimmer thinking it was a good buy for a nano cube, and it turns out you have to completely modify the WHOLE thing just to get it to fit and work?! crazy, and am not happy about it. Here i am cutting up a perfectly nice tank just so a nano skimmer can actually fit! gawd.. it really irks me... and 3. i already cut up my hood... so damn it, i am sticking with this stoopid collection cup.

lol.. seriously... not happy with this. what a PIA, a total mess.. but i need a skimmer.. NOW.... my tank i feel is flirting with a crash because i have waited so long to get this thing... as soon as my skimmer went out(the stock skimmer) i bought this Tunze).. now it is going to work..i will MAKE it work...

Re: Althea's 28g Nano

ok, so i did a little diagram, of what i did...so far... see this will show where my problem lies. the water line(look at the key on the diagram) is nowhere near where it should be... in order to get the water to where it needs to be on the skimmer, i need to lower the skimmer quite a bit... no prob, but then the cup will not reach the skimmer box to sit flush... so here is where i will be making the modifications.. somehow... but the reason i cut the baffle(see red line) is so the magnet can rest on it and the skimmer will not drop...same theory as the zip ties or anything else to hold this up. I also cut a notch out of the hood to accommodate the collection cup.

first is what the back of the nano looks like un modified

here is the back of the cube with the skimmer in it

jjust thought i would post this.. just so you can SEE what it is i am trying to explain! LOL

Re: Althea's 28g Nano

ok, so water level is now ok, might not need to do anymore damage to the tank... BUT... there is a prob with the skimmer.. we are testing the thing in our tub and it is not running effectively or consistently....so i don't know if i have a defective pump or if this thing is just a piece of crap and i cut my tank up for nothing... :frustrated:.....

Re: Althea's 28g Nano

Isn't this hobby a LOT of FUN sometimes???

And come on, where is your signature LOL....

Sorry I can't be of any help because I know nothing about nanos. If you REALLY feel like you need a break, you and yours are MORE then welcome to come on down over the weekend. I'll be making burgers, dogs, and sausages on the grill with sauted peppers and onions. mmmmmmmmm

(oh yeah, I have a small task I need help with but it won't take more than a couple minutes...)

Re: Althea's 28g Nano

IM SORRY SARAH... if my cup works ill make you one as well. from the diagram cutting the baffle where you did actually dropped the water level down further from what im seeing... well get it working.

now your skimmer... have you opened it up yet. mine started doing the same thing after i played with the levels for a while.. the airhose inside the skimmer came off of the nipple for the airscrew you may want to check that.

taking the skimmer apart is shown in the manual, i think, for regular cleaning.

im sorry u have renovated your tank so much.. i was trying to steer away from that.

PS skimmer is definatly not crap... im pulling mud out and my water is clearer than ever... i was frustrated as well with my purchase but now im VERY happy with it. you can see this in some of my post somewhere.

Re: Althea's 28g Nano

i think i have a bad pump... the water line is fine now.. , no cutting that baffle didn't lower the water... basically that baffle was like a bubble trap instead of something that held water, so making it shorter made no difference. but testing the pump, then the skimmer in our tub showed that it is not functioning consistently... real low pressure then real high pressure and we ran multiple test to determine if it was air pressure on the hose or what.. it was nothing, but the pump malfunctioning... so i will be calling marine depot today to get a replacement. well at least its not crap.. and i just got a bad pump.. otherwise i would have been really pissed. LOL

Terry and Patty: Cooking out sounds fntastic.. ill be there... but when Patti leaves im with her! HHAHA!!!

Carl: thank you for that offer! thats very nice of you... but i think that since i already cut a good size notch in my hood, i will just stick with the round one.

Re: Althea's 28g Nano

love your tank - I need to get my candy canes in a new spot - the top of the tank gets too much traffic from the snail and they keep getting knocked over. perhaps the bottom like your would be better

Nah, I was referring to the fact the Sarah and Patti would run off just about when it was time to grunt, fart, and LIFT! All at the same time...

Sarah, your 28g is truly a work of art. I'm anxious to see what you do with 90g of space. It's going to be awesome!

Re: Althea's 28g Nano

ok, update... i have the new skimmer on the way, should be here Monday or Tuesday... doing a water change today, things look good other than that....just makes me nervous not having a skimmer. so my pink ricordia grew a second mouth!!! so cool! the yellow has split into 2! really cool also!!! my new rics are really starting to get comfortable! although i need to get them on a rock.. and i DON'T know how to do it! LOL they all have a little bit of rock under them...but can i just take them out of water and dry the pieces of rock a little, then take the cyanoacrylic glue gel? and glue it to the rock? i tried this and the ric looked and felt really slimy and like it was turning to mush... im afraid im going to kill it!!! :P ok... would like to do this this weekend... ok, well here are few pics i took... didnt have my tri pod out so i got very few clear pictures!! i have very shaky hands! LOL

take care!
