Re: Althea's 28g Nano

Your mystery shroom looks very much like a Yuma Ricordia. Don't take my word for it though because I seriously suck when it comes to identifying things in a pic.

Those are truly awesome pics though! The clarity is amazing!

Re: Althea's 28g Nano

ok, update...

well i had some issues... not with livestock or anything... but im sure i would have if i hadnt acted... i have to admit i got a little slack on the WC's.. i usually do a 10% wc every three weeks... wich doesnt seem like a lot.. but it works for my tank... but i went a little over a month with no wc.. but topping off...i will now be doing a wc every two weeks... just because of my last little venture.. :P.. ok so..

i tested all my water... nitrates were high.. 20-25.. thats the highest they have ever been..nitrites 0 ammonia 0 phosphates .03 calcium low...but im hoping my new water change will change this..it was 350...i do not have any sps in my tank so i dont really know whats depleting it.. anyways... my MAgnesium is low..and this is with the Elos test kit..975... Elos says to multipy the number of drops by 75...my drop count was 13.. if it was multiply by 100 like it was before it would be 1300....better!!! does anyone know why they changed the number to multiply by? is this correct? also my Alkalinity was decent at an 8... but here is the SHOCKER i had.. my salinity was at 1.015 i realize this is from the lack of WC and the continual topping off with fresh water.... these test readings were AFTER i did the WC on Fri... ok.. soo!

Sunday i did another water change with an increased salinity...about 40ppm...that brought the salinity up to 1.020....then today (Tuesday) i did another WC with the Salinity at about 40ppm's again.. that brought the salinity up to 1.024. BETTER... mostly everything looks good, my GSP and 2 of the rics look a little stressed.....the GSP which is MAINLY because it keeps falling off the side i put him on...but im sure the salinity didnt help or the high nitrates. and the 2 rics look slightly faded...? cause of salinity? the others look really good...just my pink one looks slightly faded and the orange one looks a lot faded...

i hope i didnt do this too quickly, i was hoping every other day would be ok... everything looks good i just did the third water change...so we will see in a couple hours how it all looks. but anyways, thats my little story, and i will now be doing a WC every 2 weeks.. ok, well im out!!! have a good day!

Re: Althea's 28g Nano

Will you also be testing your salinity every 2 weeks?

On the calcium, there are lots or organisms that utilize calcium besides SPS.
LPS also use it as well as some corals we consider softies.
They have calcium sclerites sp? (kinda like needles) in their tissues.

Re: Althea's 28g Nano

great tank ! - that most defiinitely looks like a green purple yuma - you say it was a whiteish hitchiker? That is fascinating. I bought a yuma that was deep purple/green, freshly harvested and it went very white quickly - I'm trying to save it still - amazed to know that it is deepening up and getting color back
