Althea's 28g Nano

OK, this is my very first tank... I have always been around them, my dad had a 300 gallon for a long time and i have ALWAYS wanted my own ever since. I wanted a bigger tank to start with, but due to the size of my entertainment center and the dimensions of my living room... not possible. BUT i will be starting to take over my husbands 100 gallon so i may start a chronicle on that one. its pretty bare bones right now!

Anyways... the 28g Nano is PERFECT for the spot we had open... lol, and i think a good little beginner reef for me.

As of today i have done a little changing in my tank... changed the aquascaping, and puttied my frags down. i got 2 new little items today. i got a rose millipora frag very pretty!!! and the Toadstool. i have 2 shrimps. a few blue legged crabs(removed a few today) snails(not sure what kind) and 1 emerald crab(rid myself of the other one today as well) and 3 ocellera clowns

The anem is no longer with us i tried getting him to eat, but no, he ended up turning inside out, so i took him out. I got rid of my pink goniopora...just wasnt thrilled with it and didnt really have the space for it... it needs a little shade if im correct and i didnt have any, at least no where where it could be free to spread out some. so i returned it. thats what i got rid of, what is no longer in my tank.

What i do have are Green button Palys, frogspawn, candy coral, toadstool, some(hopefully still alive after being shipped pretty shattily) zoas(radioactive dragon eyes), a rose millipora, and a purple tipped brown polyp montipora. AND coming soon, thanks to the extreme generosity of Michael, some GSP frags...serious karma to him! and also i got the nano mushroom pack from liveaquaria, which will include 6 assorted mushrooms and 1 ricordia of their choosing...cant wait to see what i get!

ok, here is a FTS as of tonight...

Features of my nano:

* 150 watt 14000°K HQI metal halide lighting
* (4) Nite-Vu LED lighting with separate power cord
* (2) UL-Listed Accela Powerheads (266 gph each for a 532 gph total)
* (2) Directional flow nozzles
* (1) Ocean Pulse Duo - Alternating wavemaker
* (4) Integrated cooling fans (3,000 RPM's)
* Counter current protein skimmer with air pump
* 3-stage filtration with removable media basket
* Center overflow system
* Designated area for a heater
* Flame retardant ABS canopy housing
* Thermal protector for canopy (Auto Shut Off protection)

so i guess thats it! there's my start! cant wait to get more involved in this and see my tank grow and to see everyone else's grow! i can get lost for hours on here reading and looking at pictures!!!! This forum seems to be extremly funny with all sorts of humor and personality! i love it!! so you will be seeing more of me!

Glad you are enjoying yourself here. We try to provide good advice with a few laughts thrown in.
Looks like a great start on the nano. Can't wait for all of your new additions.
Hold off on an anemone. They really need a well established tank which is defined as a tank that has had stable water parameters for about a year. They are very picky animals with a slow metabolism so it takes some time for them to show distress and it is often too late when they do.

Re: Althea2you's 29g Nano adventure!

I got the GSPs all bagged up in a cooler and in their bax, ready to ship. The frag I was going to ship was not as full as I thought. SO I am shipping the Branch rock that I wanted> and another small frag of the light green GSP. I think the you will really like these. Once thay get situated in your tank, they will take off. You will need a little underwater lawnmower.HAHA>
BTW, Your tank looks very nice.

Re: Althea2you's 29g Nano adventure!

All you need to do is have part of the rock touching the wall. The GSP will sent out their matt and will eventually start to climb the wall. It is almost impossible to remove this type of coral from a rock. Just let the coral touch the wall and it will do its thing.~Michael

Re: Althea2you's 29g Nano adventure!

well today i get a little piece of Michaels tank! woohoo!!!! He has sent me 2 frags of GSP.. i cannot wait to get them! a few hours and counting! ya ya!!!

also, the zoas i bought from (EBAY) :P:P:P:P:P dumb mistake btw.. i knew i shouldn't have.. but i saw those radioactive dragon eyes and wanted them. so anyways... i get this tiny tiny little box, with a tiny tiny little bag in there. and in that little baggie was a plug with a couple branches on it.. with buds the size of pencil tips. it has been 4-5 days...and no nothing from them. i have a feeling that these are like.. seedlings and if thats the case, it could be a month before any action... but i am losing little buds one by one...like they are either falling off or being eaten... if its a loss.. o well it was a learning experience.. but darn it i really wanted those zoas!!!

well, thats it right now... my toad stool is doing great!!!! and all is good in the tank accept for my clowns.... My kids have a favorite in the tank and of course he is the aggressive one. he is picking on the other 2, and really picking on the smallest one endlessly. any ideas.. should i remove one of them to avoid a death?
