Re: BigAl's 10g . . .

Allen, I finally caught up on this thread - VERY impressive job with such a small tank. I need to do a twice weekly water change on my 24. It is not as I would like it. Plus, I need a stronger light. I am running a 70 mh. I want a 150.

Keep us posted on the awesome frag tank

I wont say one way or the other but I had to MAKE myself quit "tinkering" with it. I think I would do a water change every other day if I could. I have a good "system" and can do a water change pretty quick. Keep in mind it's only 2- 2.5 gallons per WC so that helps a LOT! But yes I've done MORE than that a few times.

Vicki, 70 MH is NOT enough? OMG! My weak lil 130w PC must be like a Solar Eclipse to you then

Craig thanks for your kind words. Yes I test like CRAZY! I like to see where things are going WELL before they "get there" if you will. I think I should buy STOCK in the company that makes my test supplies (API I think).

Thanks to EVERYONE for reading this

Live Rock Rubble will do the SAME thing as Bio-Balls and is NOT a suitable replacement for BIO-BALLS in a Reef System! It's ALL gotta go!!

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...currentNO3-((%WC*.01)currentNO3)=finalNO3 (thanks Luukosian)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

Re: BigAl's 10g . . .

Ok tonight I just couldn't take the Xenia "hogging" the front glass any more.

So Icreated a new frag rack. I took a "Suction cup toothbrush" tray, cut it and glued a shelf of EggCrate onto it to make a large rack for many frag plugs.

Then I cut the Xenia from the front glass and "divided" them into more manageable sized frags then super glued them onto frag plugs

Then I placed the newly devised "frag/eggcrate" rack into the tank and moved some of my existing frags to it along with the newly glued frag plugs. All this is now sitting semi-happy in my tank. Hopefully the P-Oed Xenia wont stink up the house all night long. That stuff really has a "STINCH" when you mess with it.

Well now that's quite inventive. I got xenia a few weeks ago and it's already 4 times it's original size. It's moving up a rock toward some zoos... I think I wil wait and see which gets PO'd first. Maybe I could move the xenia to the BACk wall, that might look neat.

PS. nice jammie pants

Thanks Scott. Yeah I am HAVING to stretch it until 90g gets up and running. Can I do that to a dollar? Well as a matter of fact I (My wife and I) can. We've paid off ALL of our debt (officially as of 3/2008). We've gone from a hair from losing our home to DEBT free in a little over 2 years. Cool huh? *climbs down off my soapbox*.

I didn't mean to go off on a tangent but ANY time I get an opportunity to talk debt/finance I can't help myself It's an incredible feeling to be in "this" shape

kathy it WILL look cool on the back glass. I have some trained there right now on the 10g. Once I get all the LR out and into the 90g I'll train it to completely COVER the back glass.

Thanks for the compliment.. I get that all the time Just kidding! I didn't realize my pants were in the picture. Good thing I had clothes on!!!

Thanks bro! I just HAD to create more "real estate" in there and had a slight brain storm. I'm gonna try to figure out how to make a frag rack using magnets as opposed to suction cups. Once I get THAT figured out I'll be doing good

Thanks for the kind words

Re: BigAl's 10g . . .

Al- for using magnets you can use the maxijet magnets - i think its like sure grip or something- and just superglue it to the egg crate. I have seen this done over at nano-reef. Thanks for the compliment. Ill let you know when I get some frags of those!

Re: BigAl's 10g . . .

Thanks Matt. I need to look into that idea more. I like what I have now but I am not a huge fan of suction cups "long-term" in the tank. They get worn out and can fail. Would hate for them to give up and dump all my frags into the tank (there's a SeaBae anemone down there).
