Yeah they aren't SUPPOSED to be on the glass but they don't listen to me for crap I fragged one little sprout onto a sea shell. Well it "Fragged itself" into several small sprouts about 2 days after I cut it. I had the shell moved out of the way so I could slice & dice some mushrooms and placed it too close to the front glass. A day later one of the Xenia frags "walked" off the shell onto the glass. We watched it slowly slide up from the sand level to about 4"s off the sand and just stop. Then from there it split into two. The one of those split again and now in the lower right that one has split again. The GOOD news is that once I move all the LR into the 90g tank and convert this over into a full time FRAG tank I'll have PLENTY of Xenia glass on the back and both sides. It can grow all it likes then. I'll probably cut those off the glass and attached them to plugs or disks shortly and sell them at our next frag meet.

Yes those palys eat more than you could ever imagine. And the growth from concentrating Mysis to them is phenomenal to say the least. The side that get the flow from the power head (and hence more cyclopeeze and Mysis action) are probably DOUBLE in some instances to the other side. I'm gonna frag those puppies off next.

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...currentNO3-((%WC*.01)currentNO3)=finalNO3 (thanks Luukosian)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Great pics. I love to see the Palys eat the mysis. That was a good shot. Caught him with his mouth full.

Re: BigAl's 10g . . .

Update time

Well now that I THINK I have every thing either AT home or on order (we ALL know that I'll find LOTS more I need to buy as I go along) I am also starting to work on the 10g tank AS a Frag tank... I have some frags from my office tank that needed different lights (time for a bulb change) so I used some clear Soap Dishes from the local retail store and put them into my tank. They are currently attached to the front glass because I am SHORT on real estate in that tank. But almost immediately after putting the racks in and adding the frags they started opening right up. I think I'm gonna LIKE having a Frag Tank when it's all said and done.

Ok here are a bunch of pics from last night . . . NOT good quality but you get the "Jist" of what I was trying to accomplish...

Top Down of RH rack

Top Down of LH rack

FTS Close up

FTS further away

As you can see I am going to HAVE to start fragging my Xenia from this tank soon

Re: BigAl's 10g . . .

Wow! That is a mighty full 10g tank.
Beautiful colonies for such a small reef. You must do water changes like crazy to keep it that nice.

Re: BigAl's 10g . . .

My, this tank has been on steroids since I saw it last. What kind of filtration do you use?
I like the hydors, and I would ditch as much of that xenia as humanly possible.
Now with mine, for now the tank is empty and it's going to be at least a week before I get the light/stand etc in. Think I should epoxy some crate around the edges near the top? That could be fun...

Re: BigAl's 10g . . .

Wow! Coming from you that means a LOT Lynn. Than you!

Yes I do water changes like CRAZY! I'll be the first to admit "I have a problem". To be honest I have a very good and easy "system" for water changes and I have to remind myself that I don't NEED to do water changes on EVERY day that ends in "Y".

Yes that tank is FULL of corals and it gets fed very sparingly and only has the one Clown and a Neon goby (goby is a PIG). Other than that it's corals or clean up crew.

Once I get the 90g up and running I'll be moving most of the LR over there and installing Egg-Crate racks for fragging. I ordered new bulbs last night for this tank so that may help some too.

I think I am Fragging Crazy
