I was on the beach. Had a small storm slip down the beach but it looks like it's passed now.

Live Rock Rubble will do the SAME thing as Bio-Balls and is NOT a suitable replacement for BIO-BALLS in a Reef System! It's ALL gotta go!!

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...currentNO3-((%WC*.01)currentNO3)=finalNO3 (thanks Luukosian)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

Isn't there a bar near the beach to accomodate the intermittent storms. Stay away from the internet on vacation, eh? Listen to Nikki and get your butt back to the beach!

Re: BigAl's 10g . . .

It's been a while but here is an update..

I've since given away/sold/traded a LOT of the Xenia in my tank. I still have PLENTY but I needed to make room for other things. I ended up removing my "Frag Rack" to clean it and decided to not put it back in right now.

Random "Coral" shot here

and for that SWEET Exotic Blue Xenia that Vicki sent me.. it's growing like CRAZY and looks amazing....

Here's a HAPPY (and growing) Hammer Coral

and for those of you who talk about how "fragile" and "touchy" Xenia is... this picture is of a stalk that cut "loose" while I was cutting/fragging some a month or so ago. This one stalk got caught in my Koralia #1 pump and got shredded into tiny pieces. Well I left the remnants there (lazy) and much to my surprise it took "root" and is growing like CRAZY right on the powerhead with some of it still growing into the actual impeller. It's probably over-seeding my frag tank with Pom Xenia as I am typing this

Re: BigAl's 10g . . .

Thanks Craig. It was my first SW tank so I'll always be partial to it. It's in need of some TLC which I hope to give it in a couple of weeks

Re: BigAl's 10g . . .

TLC = Cleaning Power Heads, pruning Chaeto, Cleaning Fuge *Salt Creep* and just general routine (not monthly ) maintenance.

Pom is a GREAT Xenia. If it were a better shipper I'd offer you some up but over night to your area for Xenia would make it fairly expensive for "Xenia".

Re: BigAl's 10g . . .

Thanks. That's one HECK of a compliment! I have to admit that I spent a LOT of time on that tank and it was my "Training Wheels" for Salt Water. It's still going strong to this day

Re: BigAl's 10g . . .

So I was sitting here, thinking of who had a purple lobster.. couldn't think of it for the life of me. I kept thinking.. I know it's someone I am close with. Then it hit me! It's the lovely AL!

We are going to be getting one soon, a very small one we are hoping for, I think it should be fine in the 72 for about a year until the 220 is ready...

Any suggestions? Yay or nay on the purchase? I have researched them a lot, and that was actually the first thing I said I wanted before I started. (BTW I have been in SW for a year next week!!!! Woo hoo... )

Re: BigAl's 10g . . .

I LOVE my purple! He has so much character at feeding time. I just would NOT put my hand/fingers in the rock because he's gotten good at reaching into the feeder tube and ripping shrimp out to eat. Would NOT want that to be a finger tip or worse

Happy Aniv NEXT WEEK!!! Party at the NEW HOUSE for EVERYONE!!
