As being someone who worked with a lot of wood when I was able I would say do not hide it if it has character to the grain. When I was doing yard ornaments I would always try to get wood that had no character so it wouldn't bother me so much when I was painting it. It is a sin to paint beautiful characteristic wood grains.

Re: DrHank's 155 Gallon Bowfront

Thanks Cat! I agree with you completely. It would be one thing if it was pine. It's totally different with a good Oak. I love working with wood. Building the stand for my 210 was a real joy and and I was happy about how nice even pine can look if it's finished nicely.

I love the grain displayed in the wood. Beautiful stand! Do you have the light mounted with fixtures attached to the wall?

No it's suspended by wire from the ceiling. It was either that or legs. This makes it much easier to push it out of the way momentarily if I need to.

Ok, I see the cables now. The black blocks looked like mounts on the wall.

Re: DrHank's 155 Gallon Bowfront

You know, putting some sort of oak scrollwork or some other ornamental oak work where the tank bows away from the edge/corners of the stand might help it "blend" better... do you know where I mean? Also putting some oak near or around the top... frames on teh wall behind or next to it... or an oak canopy?? hmmm...

Re: DrHank's 155 Gallon Bowfront

Ok, I see it's been quite a while since i updated this thread. Quite a bit has happened since it was half filled. After a weekend trip to GA to get items for my office 65 gallon set up, my wife said no way. She added that I wasn't to even think about the office tank until I had the 155 ready for fish. Well, everything wound up in the 155. First is a full tank shot.

Here is a shot of some of the green rics that came with the deal.

I wanted to shoot a few more pictures but the batteries in my daughter's camera died. I'll get some new ones in the morning and try to post some better close ups tomorrow night. At least you know that I'm doing something with the tank.

When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on.

Re: DrHank's 155 Gallon Bowfront

Great question, Craig!

I would especially like to see a full tank shot showing the full setup.
