Re: My 110 gal Adventure

OK, now that I'm done with all the good news for this weekend I have some BAD news too. It seems during my constuction on the hood and nailing some supports to the wall that I apparently stressed my Foxface to death. The work I did was mostly on Saturday and I never saw him all day Sunday and I finally saw him dead in the back of the tank late last night. Now as bad as this is it gets worse, I now am seeing white spots on my Royal & Firefish and can't seem to locate my Watchman Goby yet either. So I'm thinking I've got an outbreak of Ich going on in there? The little bit I saw them last night before lights out the seemed like the were rubbibg against the rocks periodically. Also another ? for everyone, Would the death of the Foxface release any of it the toxins into the tank?

Re: My 110 gal Adventure

Stress can be a definite factor in outbreaks of ICK. I had both sets of fish that you have and I was forced to ride it out as I could not capture them and they healed nicely Any medicines you might add should not be added directly to the display tank. I would slow down on my purchases of livestoc and allow the bio-load to better develop and you should strongly consider removing the bio-balls and replacing them with live rock sooner rather than later. This can help you avoid a few headaches down the road. IMHO.

Re: My 110 gal Adventure

Yeah, I wasn't planning on adding any more fish for awhile, I'm thinking I'll have a hard time removing the fish I have in the tank now and getting them into the quantine tank. But I would rather get them in there and go fishless in the display & let the Ick run its cycle through and then start over. As far as the bio-balls, your probably right about the sooner the better, I'll have to look into getting some more Live Rock and change out with the bio-balls.

Re: My 110 gal Adventure

Well I've seen my Goby out and about over the last few days, so he's still alive, but he also has spots all over him. I'm wondering how good will he do in the quarantine tank with no sand bed for him to sift? I'm going to try and catch the fish this weekend and move to the quarantine tank so I can medicate them and let the Ich run course in the Display tank. Has any one had any luck with any of these traps? Fish & Aquarium Supplies: Pest Traps & Control I'm putting together an order and was wondering if it was worth a shot. Also has anyone used any of the Aiptasia removers on that page? I've got one rock with a couple small ones on it and want to take care of it before it spreads like wild.

Re: My 110 gal Adventure

Well I got my trap and supplies that I'd ordered in on Friday. The fish trap is HUGE and it didn't really fit in my tank very well, but I was able to catch 1 of the 3 fish in the tank. After messing with the trap for awhile I decided to star removing rock to get the other 2 out. So after all that I've got all three fish in the quarantine tank to start the Ich treatment. Pics to come tomorrow due to a dead battery in the camera.

Re: My 110 gal Adventure

Hi Matt
I just read through your chronicle.
Very nice start.
Sorry about the Ich. Good luck with it!

I have not used that product for Aiptasia. I use Joes Juice.
A peppermint shrimp may also eat them

Re: My 110 gal Adventure

Well its been a few days since I started the quarantine and I finally have a couple pics to put up. The first pic is after I just put them in the QT. The next one is a few days later, the Diamond Goby has made himself a little cave that I found him sleeping in this morning.

Re: My 110 gal Adventure

I also picked up a couple of Peppermint shrimp this weekend for the DT to try and take control of the little bit of Aiptasia that I've got on one of my rocks and they seem to be doing a pretty good job on it so far.
Here's a pic of one of them

And a cool pic I took of my Brittlestar

Re: My 110 gal Adventure

Ok so I'm not really liking the copper treatment that I chose and after talking with Doni she recommended Cupramine for the Ich treatment. So after the trip to the LFS, I've now got it and plan on doing a water change tonight and start over with the Cupramine this weekend.

Can I ask why you'd remove the bioballs if you want to do a reef? Don't they help with biofiltration?

Basically they get loaded up with nitrates which are bad to corals & inverts.

Re: My 110 gal Adventure

Well I picked up a couple frags of zoas this weekend. I took a few pics but they didn't really turn out very good. This is the only decent one.

Re: My 110 gal Adventure

Well I haven't done an update in a while as there hasn't been much new going on, Still doing the Cupramine treatment for Ich in the QT and the display hasn't gotten any thnig new. That is until last night, we made a trip to one of the LFS in the area and I had one thing in my head that I wanted to get if they had one. Well to my surprize they had a Purple Reef Lobster (I've only seen 1 there in the last 2months before) so I bought it along with another Peppermint shrimp and a Fighting Conch. Here are a few pic I got before the light went out.
During Acclimation

And after being introduced to the DT.
