| Reef Addict (hopeless) ![]() | Re: Ashley and Ben's 55gal Gift. Ash the tank looks GREAT! Good job! I am still a little concerned about that anemone. The reality is that your lights don't provide hardly any of the light it needs to survive long term. The problem is that they have such a slow metabolism that they "appear" to survive and even thrive when they are actually slowly starving to death. Once they do show signs of decline it's usually already too far gone to save. Give it some thought and talk to Ben about it. If everything works out then yall can be getting another one this time next year and it could live a LONG time for you. No sense in allowing it to slowly starve to death. Allen ![]()

| -CHAUVINIST PIG- | Re: Ashley and Ben's 55gal Gift. no. but ill dust al's sugar off it for ya. its gonna die a slow miserable death. it stands no chance in you tank under your current lights, and this soon after a cycle. (is this tank even cycled?) So its like you can get some metal halides, or take it to someone who can care for it properly. so no ones offended, but like al said, no reason to kill it because Bens stubborn

| Regular Guy Moderator ![]() | Re: Ashley and Ben's 55gal Gift. If the anemone dies it will really foul your tank. It's a miserable event that takes a tank time to revover from. They just disintegrate into a stinky mush.. Just the voice of experience from a poorly lit 45 gallon hex when I just got started in this hobby. Glad your enjoying your tank as the video indicates.

| Moderator ![]() | Re: Ashley and Ben's 55gal Gift. Good job on the video. They'll either learn to get along or take up residence opposite sides of the tank. Well, I know you don't want to hear this but, I'm going to say it anyway. When my husband and I first set our reef up about 3 months into it we bought an anenome. LFS even gave us the go ahead. Said it should be fine since our tank had cycled. It lived for probably 2-3 months (can't remember exact length) then slowly started shriveling up. Once it had shriveled up to about the size of a quarter, not knowing any better, I reached in to turn it over and pull it out. What a mess I had! This milky stuff went everywhere and pieces of it were floating around also. Immediately some of my other critters started not doing well and eventually (within a week) we had lost everything except our dottyback and one clown. This is even after doing 25%-50% water changes daily and adding carbon. It took months before we were able to begin adding anything that would live. It's also after that, that we went on line and started looking at forums. Found one (didn't care for the place) that had a link to Rs and I've been here since and started asking and researching first before doing. Anyway, we just want to give you the best advice we have and are just trying to help you not make some of the mistakes we've made in the past. If you decide to keep it anyway, I hope he does well for you but, if you see it declining....best to get it out before it fouls your system. Just my 2 cents.... By the way......nice upgrade! |

| Sunshine Reefer ![]() | Re: Ashley and Ben's 55gal Gift. EVerything looks great (except the nem but you know that). I'm very happy to see everybody moved over to their new bigger home. I know you are going to have even more fun now. Video and pics are great as well. Try feeding the anemone small pieces of shrimp or other seafood. That could help it hang on a bit longer though it looks bleached already. I suspect that is how it was when you got it.

| Plate Coral | Re: Ashley and Ben's 55gal Gift. Thank you everyone for the concern I guess I'll snatch it out of there one day while ben is at work. ![]() I would hate for it to foul our tank. The other one we had eventually died too but luckily didn't foul anything. I know it's gonna die but Ben loves it maybe I could get him something else that's "cool". LMAO Does anyone have any suggestions about what to get. I don't want any fish yet (not until the end of NOV). The LFS has some cool looking sponge balls. It says "orange" sponge but it's yellow so that right there makes me not want it. So anyone anything? |
