Re: Ashley and Ben's 55gal Gift.

OK back to the real reason of this thread.

I bought part of my cleaning crew yesterday. I got 5 Astrea snails, 2 more turbo snails and three hermit crabs. So now I have a total of....11 snails (3 different kinds) and 3 hermits. I wanna get some more hermit crabs. We never had them in the 29gal. I put them in the 55gal last night and they we're just soooo fun to watch. So I want a lot more hermits.

Re: Ashley and Ben's 55gal Gift.

Good job Punkette I have some in each of my tanks and they are pretty cool to watch. Mine are the "micro" kind so sometimes they aren't very visible but once I drop some Mysis into the water they ALL come out and go wild.

Re: Ashley and Ben's 55gal Gift.

Scarlet Hermits are the only hermits that I know of that remain algaevores as adults. All others in my experience become snailavores as they mature. Scarlet Red with Yellow eye stalks is what you look for.

Re: Ashley and Ben's 55gal Gift.

Sweet.

I need to post up some new pics.....I went ahead and moved all the rocks in the 55gal. It's been two weeks so that means we only have until the end of NOV till I can start adding fish (6wk period, ich should be gone). And Sunday was my last night of work so I'm really not gonna want to spend any money this month. So I'll get some new pics today.

Re: Ashley and Ben's 55gal Gift.

I'm taking down my 29gal today. Could I put the sand from my 29 into the 55gal? And if so what's a good way to do it without making the 55gal cloudy for days?

Re: Ashley and Ben's 55gal Gift.

if you do it really slow under the water & close to your sand bed it should take just a few hours to clear up

Re: Ashley and Ben's 55gal Gift.

Ash,

Put the sand in a gallon plastic bag and submerge. Then pour the sand close to the sand bed as Jack suggested. It shouldn't cloud much at all.

Re: Ashley and Ben's 55gal Gift.

K will do!!! Here's a few pics
1. Full tank shot (yes i know there is an anemone in there but the couple that we got the tank from gave it to us and Ben loves it. He'd be real mad if I took it to the LFS)

2. Hermits

3. Pregnant shrimp

4. Little blue starfish made it safely.

Re: Ashley and Ben's 55gal Gift.

Yes Doot.....We bought all the rocks with the purple color on it and when we did it was covered with aptasia. Soon after we bought 3 peppermint shrimp and haven't had any problems with the aptasia. They just went to town on it.

So yea....everything is in the big tank now!!!! yay!!!!

The cleaner shrimp didn't get along at first here's a funny video of them chasing each other. They did this for the first night (ALL NIGHT) but now their getting along just fine.
