Re: 240

What salt are you using? Some salt takes 3 days to a week to full disolve.

Re: 240

I'm sure others will speak up but I've read where people have issues with Reef Crystals taking a long time to fully disolve. I use IO and it disolves 100% within an hour.

Are you sure it's not micro bubbles?

Re: 240

Its not micro bubbles, it just has a slight milky color. Not terrible, but bad enought to bother me.

What is your calcium level? Could it be a calcium snow storm?

Re: 240

I have been crazy busy, and have not had time to check level and such. Tonite, I should have some time to test water and finish hooking up stuff. Hopefully I will get my Aqua-Controller JR. Hooked up and running.
My Rock will be here next week, and I am still waiting to hear from Jack about my light, It is taking WAY longer than I had expected to get this stupid light. I am going to talk with my dad tonite about "investing" in some live rock.

Question?
I have 120 pounds of marcorock comming next week. How much true LIVE ROCK. ahould I add to this for filtration purposes. Should I add alot to get the bacteria kicking, or can I get just a little and everything will be fine. Also How long will it take for the Dry Rock to cure and have a good bacteria Population? I think I would be nice to just have a little bit of LIVE ROCK to get the process started. Plus wouldnt that reduce any chances of introducing "stuff" that I do not want.
I just want to get some different opionions. THANKS~Michael

Re: 240

Hi Michael, glad to see you finally have water in this baby!

RC is usually clear within the hour. Could it be the start of a bacteria bloom? Do you have any sand or rocks in there yet?

Test, test, and test again a simulated power outage so you do not flood the sump when the power goes off (because the power will be off when it least convenient for you and your brother too).

Re: 240

There is nothing in the tank. Just water and salt mix. No sand, rock, additives, anything. That is why I am puzzled.

Re: 240

I think when you mix salt in a large volume of water, it is much easier to notice the stuff that takes a while to dissolve. If you mixed the salt just in a bucket, you probably wouldn't notice the same amount of cloudiness, and when you do a water change it gets diluted so quickly that you never notice it in the display. It took my tank a week to clear up totally when I first added salt to the whole system.

Re: 240

I also found that because I was adding salt to COLD water it took FOREVER to dissolve. I added water straight from the RO/DI unit to my tank initially (was VERY cold) and the salt didn't really dissolve a LOT until I got it above 65 degrees. Last night I mixed SW in a 35 can and it dissolved fairly well with the temp at 78 degrees and a MJ900 along with a Mag7 churning the water up.

Re: 240

Dude, you JUST put water and salt in the tank. Relax, it'll happen.

OK, class, now sit cross legged in front of your tanks, hands on knees with first finger and thumb touching, take a deep breath, let it out, and repeat after me: "uuuuuummmmmmmmmmmmm, ssssssssssllllllllllllllllooooooooooooowwwwwwwww ........ uuuuuuuuuuuuuummmmmmmmmm ssssssssssllllllllllllllloooooooooooooowwwwwwww .........
