Just stopping by..... sorry Doni Marie but i disagree with the idea of a frag tank in the fuge. Frags need a lot of light to show the polyps and optimal colors. In addition they should grow also as quickly as possible and for a good grow a very strong current is required. You cannot realise strong current in a fuge. A fuge need light too, but not so much light as frags.

Re: 240

Thanks for the input HMA. But if I have low flowgoing into the refugium and low flow out. And used powerheads just to add turbulence, wouldnt that be ok. I know that you want to have long contact time with the algea, but the flow through the tank would be low. Also the frags and eggcrate would cut down the light that reaches the Chaeto. I just thinking right now.~Michael

Re: 240

Are you planning on MH lights over the fuge? And the fuge will be under the tank? That is a LOT of heat that will be heating up the underside of the tank.

I'm just not sure that that is the place you want a frag tank.

Re: 240

I am planning on using either one of the smaller solaris fixtures. Or a T5 lighting. I was thinking about 6 or 8 bulbs with individual reflectors. What do you think?

Re: 240

Hi Michael,

in general I find the idea of an frag tank under the head tank very well. However, I do not believe this idea itself rationally allows to realise, even if the required light and enough current is available. In a frag / fuge tank with strong current are tons of finest alga spores. These are rinsed by the current now between frags and will settle also partially in frags. I am sure, the frags dont like that certainly. If this idea can be to realised so simply, many Reefer would have moved certainly already this idea. However, I wish a lot of success with the plan.

Re: 240

Thanks Heinz. I am not 100% sure that this will be the way I go, it is just an idea. Also, does Chaeto release spores? This will be the only algea that I will be using. I still have some research to do.

Re: 240

I just asked myself.....I kinda Paused....then twitched a little.....now I am typing this. I guess the main reason I want one is so when my HUGE acro colonies ( I hope) need to be trimmed, I will have somewhere other than the sand bed to but the trimmings.LOL

Re: 240

IMHO a dedicated frag tank is for people who enjoy going to reef club meetings/swaps to trade frags. Aside from that it is an unnecesary added expense. If you want to grow out a few pieces then you can atach a piece of eggcrate to a magfloat and keep it closer to the surface of your main display.

...dont mean to sound harsh but, I just dont want to see you wasting unecessary time/effort/money on something you wont be needing in the long run.

Haha... well, I have an idea. Do not worry about building a frag tank; simply give all your frags & Trimmings to ME

Re: 240

That is what I was thinking. That is why I was going to try to combine the Fuge and Frag tank. But I guess I will just stick to the viewable Refugium. Thanks for the input Booze.~Michael

Re: 240

Ok, I am going to ask a dumb question. We have all heard it before....dont yell at me, or say you should know that. .................................................. ................................................Ho w many fish can I have?......ok I said it.

I wont have very many fish that have huge bio-loads. The largest fish that I will have will be my Blue Hippo Tang. Other than that and MAYBE an Achillies Tang, everybody will be small. I like smaller Anthias, Fairy wrasses, etc. Most of the fish I liek have an adult size of aroun 3.5-4 inches MAX. Remember I am going to have an SPS tank, so I know the fewer fish the better. What are Yall' thinkin. If you do the 1 inch of fish per 5 gallon rule that puts me at 48 inches. But should I really go by that?
Thanks~Michael
