Re: My 25 gallon QT/Hospital Tank

Karma to you Doni because I know what you are about to go through. Get ready for WC's all the time. I have about 20" of fish in what was an uncycled 55 and they have been in there about 2 weeks and I'm just starting to get through the ammonia into trites and I'm still doing 20 gal a day WC and have gone through a whole bottle of cycle that is for 942 gallons! What method of treatment are you doing? I chose hypo and the fish look great and they were acting ich free after about 3 days of treatment because of the lowered salinity and ease of osmoregulation.

Re: My 25 gallon QT/Hospital Tank

Thanks for sharing your situation. It helps to know I am not alone

I have not decided on a method of treatment yet. I am deciding between hypo and copper but leaning more towards hyposalinity.

I am always ready for water changes. I always have a 55 gal drum full of ro/di and another 55 gal drum full of mixing salt water. My water changes are very easy now!

Re: My 25 gallon QT/Hospital Tank

I chose they hypo for three reasons: less stress on fish, more natural, and I can reuse the tank for a QT tank and don't have to use it as a hospital tank forever only. The copper will leach out of the silicone after treatment from what I have heard.

Re: My 25 gallon QT/Hospital Tank

Here ya go Billy!

Unfortunately, I have to look at this set up for at least 3 more months 1 month to cycle and at least 2 months to treat all my fishes. Not the prettiest set up but it serves a very, very important purpose. It will hold all of my fish during their ICH treatment.

You can see all of the AP test kits. I plan on getting Instant Ocean kits next. I will be testing ammonia, nitrite, ph, salinity, temp, and alkalinity daily. If I choose to treat with copper, I will test for copper also.

The overflow doing it job very well (thanks Billy)

Top-down shot of my lovely 25 gal Brute trashcan-sump I have an airwand in there to aid in gas exchange. The return pump is a Mag 5. It does a very good job and the flow rate is perfect.

Here is my DIY return

Re: My 25 gallon QT/Hospital Tank

Wow, nice looking QT. Mine is a 10 gallon with 2 PVC pipes in it.
I hope your tang pulls through. Achilles tangs are my favorite fish. Have any pictures for me to drool at?

I could have given you a whole bucket of them when you were here. Unless Frank snuck behind my back and threw them away. I am the pack rat in this house.
