No, the glue sniffing adaptor for SpitShield ® requires optional John Guest valve assembly GS-27182818. $14.99 plus postage and handling.

Re: Labor of Love. I hope.

I think I need to change my thread name from Labor of Love to Skull Island or "King Kong...The adventure continues".

Re: Labor of Love. I hope.

Well, I see a couple a extra looking rocks in the front or on top, break them up into smaller rocks and use that to fill in the gaps. But leave some caves for fish and flow.

Consider the thread renamed.

Re: Labor of Love. Skull Island.

Well worked late into the night on my sump. I had to make changes with the sump in place because I can't move the tank.

I managed to reposition the drain lines...Instead of having one ell pointing toward the baffles I now have it pointing away, and pushing the other pipes bubbles away as well. If "L" is a pipe with a ell and "|" is a straight pipe I now have |Baffles >|l|_____L|. Thus the ell is actually pushing the bubbles clockwise around the skimmer. It helped, but not completely. I will still need a exhaust trap or socks.

Also, I played with the skimmer and managed to get it arranged better. The mod was all slip fit without purple stuff, and I really needed to play with the depth of the pvc in the slip fittings. I now have the checkvalve handle as high as the top of the skimmer, the water is dropping 3 inches to the water line and thing seem to be working better.

I have been asked to adopt a clown (don't know whether true / false), a pajama, a hermit and a striped shrimp from a friend of my sister who is unable to keep them, so this weekend I will have two fish, a shrimp, multiple hermits, and if the Frag Swap in Rockford turns out well a variety of starter coral.

Question:

I agreed to take the fish, but am a little apprehensive because 1) unknown condition and 2) I still want to buy two (120 day) young onyx percs from a guy at the swap. I need advice on how to place all of these fish in the tank to maximize acclimation and compatibility.

I have a lot of hiding places. Do you feel that with this tank volume and adding them all at the same time I will be OK or in trouble?

John

Re: Labor of Love. I hope.

John, you probably won't have to worry about having three clowns, because if you put one in there now, as new as your tank is, there is a high probablility that it will perish.

Scott, can you explain why? All my parameters are excellent, and my rock has been curing for months. Ammonia Nitrites and Nitrates are 0-0-0, pH continuously 8.3, SG 1.026, calcium is a little low (under 400). My snails hermits and pods seem to be doing very well, and the skimmer seems to be working well.

Are you concerned about bubbles / embolism?

Re: Labor of Love. I hope.

I agree
If you put 3 in there this weekend all 3 may die.

I know your rock has been curing for some time but you need to add livestock s-l-o-w-l-y-! Add a clean up crew first. Snails, hermits. Some coral frag will be okay. Then when all goes well you can add a fish. I am concerned if you add 3 fish so fast that your system will not be prepared to handle the bioload and you could lose the fish.

Mantis are very hardy though. I also have a toadstool leather frag that I can give you if you are interested.

Do you have a CUC already? What do you have and how long have you had them?

Re: Labor of Love. I hope.

OK. I have had snails and hermits in my curing tank for a couple of months. My only concern is starvation since they have little to eat other than a small amount of algae and the pods.

I can add a 75 gallon CUC but when I look at the composition I am afraid I do not have enough waste for them to live on.

I will start with the corals this weekend. I will hold off on the Onyx' and ask my sister's friend to hold off for a week or two.

So, assuming I add cuc and xenia, zoa, mushroom, leather, etc. this week.

What would be the next step? 1) timid first, must be hardy/healthy, vegan due to lack of adequate food-life in the tank.

Re: Labor of Love. I hope.

I didn't realize that your LR was already cycled. Therefore, this is an interesting and age old philosphical question. Does cured LR make for an immediate cycled tank? IMO, the answer is no. It takes time to condition reef water and get stability. Today your parameters are zero, tomorrow they maybe up. I just think more time is needed for you to become one with your water's stability.

I know you didn't plan on adding 3 fish at once, but can't your friend hold onto the fish for a little longer?
