Re: Octoman's 55 gallons of euphoria

Thanks Andy, JFK, Heinz, and Craig!

The new fighting conch is a sand cleaning machine! Could I put two in a 55? ORA recommends no more than 1 per square foot of sand bed. But, I've also got the two cukes from TBS, so I guess they would all be competing. I've considered finding the larger cuke another home where he would have more to eat.

Re: Octoman's 55 gallons of euphoria

I would wait and see if their is too much competion between the Cuc and conch before adding another sand cleaner. If your Cuc starves it will foul your tank something fierce, which is something you definitely don't want to risk.

If you remove the Cuc then a different conch would be better to avoid "Fighting" ie a Qween conch or one that doesn't have a long feeding tube.

Re: Octoman's 55 gallons of euphoria

I'll be taking the bigger cuke out for sure, trying to find him a good home...

Speaking of cukes, I caught this guy in the act last night. Sorry, the video quality is pretty bad, low light and a digital camera... If you look close towards the end, you can see what he does with his tentacles, one at a time. They're finger lickin' good!

Re: Octoman's 55 gallons of euphoria

My HH diadema urchin was about the size of a skittle when he rode in on the rock a few months ago, now he is ginormous! He's an algae eating machine too, keeps the rocks pretty clean...

The xenia is coming along well these days, recovering well...

Here's the transition...

New...

Starting to crash...

Even worse...

I thought it was a goner, then these three popped up...

And today...

Re: Octoman's 55 gallons of euphoria

Thanks Craig! I love the urchin, we call him Spike. I'll be sad if/when he outgrows the tank, maybe I'll just have to upgrade...

There's a large tunicate lurking behind my rock, it's about 2 inches long....

Re: Octoman's 55 gallons of euphoria

I got this rock cheap because it had a couple mushrooms on it. It was a clam that had died, but I got it home only to find out it had a second clam living next to the other one. I don't know what kind it is, no exciting colors or mantle that extends out of the shell...
