Re: Octoman's 55 gallons of euphoria

Thanks everyone! I made a major change today, I had a monster 200W dolphin submersible pump for a return, I got it cheap when I was setting up my tank and thought, can't hurt to be too big, right? My temp was staying around 83-84 with a cooling fan on the sump...
Today I put a new return pump on, a Quiet One 4000 at 50W instead of 200... Working just fine so far and the temp has already dropped 2 degrees in just a few hours.

I think your talking about the glass anemones (probably called rock anemones too by some, that's the problem with common names) aka. Aptasia. None of those in there yet, thank goodness!

OK, one more pic, but this is the last one tonight! I've got to do some house cleaning!

Somebody left their clothes lying on the floor...

Re: Octoman's 55 gallons of euphoria

I ordered an RO unit so I can save $ and trips to the grocery store for water. I also ordered a seperate TDS meter that came yesterday, so of course, I had to try it out.

First the tap water - 160ppm, sounds about right.
Next, let's try the grocery store RO water! - 160ppm!

I'm glad my RO unit is coming today! I wondered why I had an algae bloom after the last water change....

Re: Octoman's 55 gallons of euphoria

Sorry about the hair algae, just a couple spots left, I've left them there for Shrek (the lawnmower) and Daisy (tang) to nibble.

Here's the tree sponge and some sort of Faviid (both TBS bonuses!)

And the little faviid with it's polyps out...

Newest fishy addition, right now we call him "plaid". How about some name suggestions?

The first one features the xenia that is slowly coming back from the dead (more polyps start pulsing every day!)

Re: Octoman's 55 gallons of euphoria

I've stepped up the water changes since I got the home RO/DI unit, everyone seems to be liking it.

Water parameters are checking out well. However, I'm not going to consider adding anything else until the xenia starts to look much better...

I've got 2 48" T5s with individual parabolic reflectors. I've considered adding one more, but they pack a lot of punch with the individual reflectors. I think they do almost as well as 4 bulbs side by side in a fixture that all share one reflector because of all the light being efficiently reflected back down. I don't want to overdo it... Thoughts?
