Re: Octoman's 55 gallons of euphoria

Im not sure.
I need to do some research first.
All I know is that some clams need to go on the substrate and some need to go on the rocks. I have some work to do to find out which clam would be best for my tank.

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...(-NO3=WC%)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

Re: Octoman's 55 gallons of euphoria

Thanks Allen!

Jeff, my clam is attached to a large flat clam shell that is buried just under the surface of the sand. I think the Derasa has become my favorite clam - they expand a lot and the bigger they get, the more beautiful they get IMO. But, this little guy will get pretty big and fill up half my tank eventually (although I'll most definitely have a bigger tank by then...).

Re: Octoman's 55 gallons of euphoria

Thanks guys!!

I need to vent for a minute...

First - don't EVER put green chromis in your tank unless you plan to leave them in there forever. These things are NOT easy to catch!

Second - if you happen to need to take them out, just go ahead and tear all the rockwork down because that's the only way they're coming out

Third - Individual Parabolic reflectors hurt and slice really bad when you hit them with your hand at high speed while trying to net a fish. They're kind of like a razor...

Ok, that's all, I feel better now.

Oh, and I've got an Aquacontroller Jr on the way, so how can I complain!

Great chronicle, Mark, and your tank is beautiful!

Maybe this is a naive question, but why didn't you like your green chromis? They're so cute!

Re: Octoman's 55 gallons of euphoria

Sorry about the meanie-greenies bro! Been there.. done that... GOT the T-shirt and torn down rock! I drained my tank to less than 3" of water and STILL had to take the rock out.

You'll LOVE your AC Jr buddy! Can't wait till you get it in!!

Re: Octoman's 55 gallons of euphoria

I loved the two green chromis, but they beat each other up all the time. I think they would do much better in a larger school, but I just don't have the room. The school tank has two also, so these guys will be joining them to make a happy little school of four. I think they will all be much happier that way.

Craig, I whole-heartedly agree. I've caught a few other fish out with not much problem, but these guys were like greased pigs!!

Re: Octoman's 55 gallons of euphoria

Damsels are tough and fast! That's why we need to question whether we REALLY want them in a tank. Clown fish are part of the damsel family and aren't any easier to catch.
