The expression on the firefish is like "OH CRAP! You're a BIG fish!"

My nitrates and phosphates are staying at 0 and my hair algae is almost completely gone, so I think it is doing its job well. I recently acquired a blind clownfish that was headed for the gas chamber. His previous owner tried very hard, but was having to grossly overfeed her tank just so he could find a bite or two. Now he lives in my fuge and hangs out with the pods in the chaeto!
Glad it's doing well for you. Like you stated I've seen some CRAZY Cheato growth along with some "Stunted" growth. I think it's all part of the cycle of food vs eater. Mine grows well for a few weeks then slows down. Actually I've found that if I keep the fuge less than FULL of it, it grows more rapidly. If I let the fuge get FULL it really slows down but I'm sure it's a matter of Cheato ratio to nutrients.

Have a great evening and keep up the good work buddy! Hope it's not TOO cold down there where you are right now. It was mid TEENS this morning when I left for work.

Sorry to hear about the mini-crash! Subsequent reports sound a whole lot better. I'm diggin' the scrolling hammer/anchor.

Glad you learned your dosing lesson without a total crash. As you found out iodine is very toxic. Always test before adding ANYTHING, eh?

Your tank is really coming along, Mark!

Re: Octoman's 55 gallons of euphoria

Thanks Everyone!

Terry, Daisy (the tang) was terrified of the firefish for the first week or two, she ran to the other side of the tank if they got near her!

Al, it can't decide whether it is going to be freezing or steamy hot here. We built a fire one day and the next I was wearing shorts and a t-shirt...

Craig, the problem was that I had a brain fart and added twice the dose I should have. However, now IF I dose at all, I will be adding half the usual dose at a time. If the recommended dose is only half of a toxic level, thats a bit high for my taste...

My urchin must have been feeling pretty good a couple nights ago and decided it was a good time to sow his oats...

Re: Octoman's 55 gallons of euphoria

Time to fess up, Santa put a little Liveaquaria.com gift card under the tree and I got some new goodies yesterday. My girlfriend has been dying to have an anemone for the clownfish to "snuggle" in and I've always kind of wanted one too. I went on liveaquaria and looked at the WYSIWYG anems, but decided to just buy one of the general BTAS and let them pick it out (made my gift certificate go a little further). I ordered a medium (3-6") BTA. It showed up the next day and I was blown away.

Into the tank after acclimation, looking a little jetlagged...

Re: Octoman's 55 gallons of euphoria

About 6 hours later when I turned the lights back on, I realized how big this guy really is! Wow, I know he's probably a little extra expanded from being stressed, but he is huge!! I read they can be up to 12" and right then, he was pretty close...

Re: Octoman's 55 gallons of euphoria

And today, he was looking a little more settled in. For now he seems to like the place I put him, but I'm waiting to see if he picks a new spot so I can rearrange everyone else if needed. I warned my GF that the clownfish may never "snuggle", but this morning they started hovering near it and the female will sit about an inch away and just stare at it.

Re: Octoman's 55 gallons of euphoria

I've also always wanted a clam so I took the plunge and ordered a Derasa. He arrived looking very healthy and was open within minutes of putting him in the tank. One day later, he has put down a nice hunk of byssal thread and seems to be doing well.

Re: Octoman's 55 gallons of euphoria

Thanks everyone! Fred, the anemone, decided he didn't like the front side of the rock and moved to the back. Instead of crawling across, he decided to jam his whole body through the tiny hole on top of the rock (right in front of him in the picture), it took about 24 hours to get through. He's eating well and the clowns still hang out near him, but refuse to get in. It's kind of like kids at the pool afraid to jump in...
